This comes to us from unclaimed storage. The previous owner put it in storage and paid faithfully every month, then got behind in his rent payments. After getting VERY behind, he finally brought the California Title for the car into the office and signed it over to the storage facility in lieu of rent. I purchased this from the storage facility and am offering it for sale here. This is located in Carson, California… just south of Los Angeles, near Long Beach. It is still at the same storage facility where I bought it; I haven’t taken it off the property. This is being sold as-is, for repair or restoration or parts. It’s been neglected and it should be checked over thouroughly before being put into use. All of my observations and descriptions here are based on me walking around and checking things out with just my limited knowledge. Generally speaking, I spend about 20 minutes with vehicles like this and most of that is taking photos… we remove the beer cans, sports equipment, adult magazines and divorce paperwork that seems to be in every one of these abandoned vehicles, then take our photos and move on. Please feel free to ask specific questions about anything that’s unclear or especially important to you. This looks like you might expect something to look that’s been sitting unused at a storage lot for several years… it’s dirty and hasn’t been cleaned in a long time. Keep in mind, at a storage facility I have no access to water for cleaning or electricity for vacuuming to make the car look any better. EXTERIOR CONDITION: Walking around the outside I see faded paint, small dings, and scratches here and there. Please look closely at the photos and the video to see the general condition. The body is generally straight and the glass is all good. There is no rust on the vehicle. The tires seem ok, with no cracks or problems that I can see. The doors, trunk and hood open and close fine, although the prop to hold the hood open is not attached to the car. The power glass sunroof seems to be working fine as well. INTERIOR CONDITION: The interior is in generally presentable condition, although the driver’s carpet shows a lot of wear where the foot would rest. The rest of the carpet, seats and door panels could all use a good cleaning, but they’re actually not too bad. I have seen much worse in daily use by many people. Inside the trunk looks pretty good. MECHANICAL CONDITION: This car came with no key. I dug around in my import key box and found one that kind of works the door sometimes, and another one that kind of works the ignition sometimes. How long they will continue to work is a question, but they are included. The battery is dead, so we jumped it from another vehicle. The battery does not appear to take a charge. First try, the vehicle started right up. Second try, it would only crank but not start. That happened a few more times, then it started again and ran fine. The engine seems to run ok, but the idle varies… sometimes the idle slowly increases, then sometimes it slowly decreases. Listen for that in the video. However, it did not stall or die. The power steering reservoir is empty. I added a little fluid then found a small puddle on the ground, so there is a leak somewhere in the power steering system. The car steers without the power steering, but of course it requires more effort. My helper jumped in and drove it around the storage facility parking area. It runs, stops and shifts ok. We checked the lights, horn, flashers, signals, etc. and found those things to be in working order. SUMMARY: There you have it… one worn but promising Prelude that you can name your price on… the best thing I can do is offer this for sale at a cheap opening bid with no reserve and let you decide what you think is a fair price. ABOUT THE TITLE, REGISTRATION AND PAPERWORK: As described above, this vehicle comes with a signed-off California Title (“pink slip”) from the registered owner. It is overdue in registration as the photo of the license plate shows. The California DMV website can help you figure the registration fees for any vehicle. Just search their site for “fee calculator”. The title is not marked “Salvage” or anything unusual, and there are no liens or loans against the vehicle. ABOUT INSPECTING THE VEHICLE BEFORE THE AUCTION ENDS: This vehicle is available for your inspection just before the auction ends. In this case, that inspection time will be on Saturday, November 6th at 4:30pm. Drop me a note with your phone number if you’d like the address to meet me there at that time. ABOUT PICKING UP: This is located in Carson, California. You absolutely MUST pay and pick up on or before Wednesday November 17th. Will you bend over backwards to help me and spend half of eternity working with me to get me the paperwork I need? A: We have been through this about a bazillion times. The paperwork included is authorized by the State of California, not by God himself… and allows the buyer to take title within California, not anywhere in the universe. If you need some other real or imaginary paperwork for where you live, sorry… but I can’t help. ***** Q: I like this and want to bid, but I am a bit afraid of bidding on a thing I haven’t seen in person. What if it’s a piece of crap? What about the seller… I don’t even know who you really are? How can I be sure you aren’t a scam artist? A: Actually, you have a lot of ways to be sure of things here. As far as the item, there are tons of pictures and even a video to show you all the important views and aspects of what you are considering buying. I have a little experience with selling vehicles on Ebay and try to take the best pictures I can based on what I think is important to the buyer. You can also come and take a look at this item, or hire an outside inspection service to come and check it out for you, or maybe you know a friend who lives in the area… and I’d be glad to meet them for your inspection. As far as the seller, you should always click on the number near the seller’s name before purchasing anything on Ebay… this will give you the feedback history for the seller based on previous customer’s experience, and will tell you how long they’ve been selling on Ebay. In my case, you can also click on the little “ME” icon near my name and see a picture of me and some of my helpers, my address, phone number and other information about who you are dealing with.
