Vehicle Detail

I purchased this car in June of 2010 and had intended to restore it to a nice condition, aesthetically speaking. However, the sale of my home dictates that I must sell this fine automobile before I could begin that restoration in earnest. The vehicle has an estimated 164,000 miles on it.I drove the Car from Oakland, CA to Detroit, MI in June and experienced no issues at all.Since that time, I have adjusted the valves (badly needed), re-built the two Solex carbs, replaced all four shock absorbers, all four tires, points, plugs, condenser, distributor cap, ignition wires, battery, voltage regulator, air filter, fuel filter and power steering pump reservoir gaskets. The issues most needing resolution on this vehicle; The floor pans are solid but must have the stock sheet metal welded in place in order to restore the stock seat belt mounting points (previous owner repaired floor pan by cutting and welding in new sheet metal 4" x 12") where rust was apparently a problem. Drivers side seat retains seat belt, passenger side is missing. The only other major issue is that the heater core requires two new valves which are controlled by the I/P slide controls. These are currently frozen and the hoses to the heater core have been re-routed to exclude the heater core by the previous owner. Other than this, the car is apparently rust-free, as evidenced by the photo's that I've included which show the inner - door lips and such which were not painted over. The outside of the car has been re-sprayed and the results are so-so. Nice color, some orange peel (minor) and some bubbling in the crease along each side of the vehicle. The bubbling does not seem to be rust - moreover, poor surface prep before re-spraying the car. The car features a working Becker Europa radio with an iPod interface added, period correct Hirschmann antennae and new mono speaker. The interior of the car is in good shape - dash has no cracks, steering wheel has a slight radial crack like all M-B's of this vintage, seats are recovered in brown vinyl by previous owners and the carpet appears to be new. Door panels are in good shape with no tears on the MB-Tex nor and missing elements. All gauges function, all lighting functions. All doors have been keyed alike (after much work!) and the trunk has a functioning lock with key, as well. Glove box has keys but lock is not functioning currently. Engine and transmission are strong - engine has plenty of compression, has used no oil and shows no signs of smoke at any time, I assume this to mean that the rings and valve seats are in good condition.Transmission shift linkage needs new bushings, again like all in the series at this age, range of motion in shifter is effected but does shift into Drive easily and without problem. Brakes function well but will need a review soon, cooling system functions well (save for the previously mentioned heater core issue) with no overheating issues.. The rubber parts (windshield seals, door seals, certain grommets, etc.) will need replacement eventually. Included in the sale will be an invaluable Mercedes Benz Factory Part Number reference book (765 pages which shows all non-engine part numbers and assembly diagrams - makes ordering or tracking parts much easier!), the Factory shop manuals for the engine and the car itself as well as all purchase and service paper work from the day the car was purchased in 1965 until roughly 1994. I will be quite willing to send additional photos upon request or take more photos of any specific area of the car which would be helpful for a prospective buyer. In terms of a reliable vehicle, I would place this at 7 of 10 points and is an ideal restoration vehicle.. Title is clear and in-hand.
