Vehicle Detail
This is a 1950 Studebaker Commander in essentially original condition. It is a true survivor, absolutely amazing condition for a 60 year old vehicle. Turqouise color, paint is through to primer in some places. A few dings and small dents, but overall very straight. No rust (other than some light surface) anywhere on the car. Trunk has all the felt in place, not torn up at all. An extra rim for a spare tire is included. The carpet is original, never replaced. Glass is all there and in good shape, except the driver's side window which has a crack in it along the edge. There were seat covers from the 1970's on the seats, the rear seat still has the original fabric (some tears and one area is open, but basically intact). Suicide doors. The engine starts easily and runs well. 3 speed column shift works fine. I have owned the car for two years, and drive it regularly around our small town. This old "Rocket Car" never fails to get a smile from the old-timers around here. It appears the headliner was replaced at some point, it is in good shape. I put in a new wiring harness, replaced the speedo with one from a Land Cruiser with similar mileage but working better (I am including the original one too) and added an NOS clock that keeps good time. The dash instruments are aircraft type and glow with an amazing purple "black light" hue at night - I think the clock, the dash, and steering wheel on this model were rated as "coolest of all-time" by an article in"Turning Wheels" magazine. In addition to the new wiring harness I just installed a new 6V battery, and apart from a glitch in the headlight relays I haven't tracked down yet, the lights all work as they should. The horns and vacuum wipers were removed and are included. Tires hold air and are driveable (I have had it up to 50 MPH on side roads) but are old and weather checked. These should be replaced for anything more than putting around town. I am also including some other extra parts I bought, and the shop manual. I understand from the previous owner, who had it for many years and drove it mostly in parades, that the Studebaker Museum in South Bend, Indiana was interested in this car at one time. This would be a great restoration project, or do like I have done and just have fun driving it around. I have gone back to school and just can't afford to keep it. I have tried to describe everything to the best of my ability, please ask any questions you have, and happy bidding.
