Vehicle Detail

I am regretfully putting my 1954 Cadillac CoupeDeVille 2 door hardtop up for sale. This is a great car for a Cadillac collector looking for a restoration project. This is an actual Coupe DeVille model, factory power windows, power seat, power steering, power brakes, fog light option. People use the term “barn find” loosely but I can guarantee this car has not had a ton of owners and has not been taken apart and patched up a million times. I am the third owner. 1st owner past away and the second owner inherited it, only to let it sit outside in a dirt storage lot for 30 years and deteriorate, I spent months trying to buy the car from him and finally got the chance to save it. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time money and space it deserves so I need it to go to a good home. I buy and sell a lot of old cars but this one is my baby. I insist the car will go to someone who is going to restore it and appreciate it for what it is, not someone that thinks if they drive an old Cadillac everyone will think they are cool or someone that wants to throw huge chrome wheels and tons of stereo equipment in it. Anyway, back to the car. The caddy is running, driving and has current registration and a clean California title in my name. I have been cruising it around town but due to it sitting for so long it needs tuned up, new exhaust, new belts/hoses brakes adjusted etc.. before I would consider it a good solid driver. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL UN RESTORED PROJECT CAR, I will do my best to describe it below… DRIVETRAIN- Engine and trans are in very good condition. Matching number 331 engine and single coupling hydromatic trans, both were rebuilt by the original owner many many years ago, I just rebuilt the water pump, cleaned out the carb, flushed the fluids and put a battery in it and the engine runs great. Engine does not smoke or make any noises, trans shifts properly. Car has been converted to 12 volt with an alternator and has an electric fuel pump. It starts right up every time, does not get hot, and once again, no blow by. Still has the batwing air cleaner and glass washer jar. Due to sitting so long it will need new exhaust (just from the mufflers back ), belts/hoses, and everything adjusted, but I do drive it. EXTERIOR- this car is 56 years old and has not had any real body work done to it ever, its rough and original but you know what you are getting. The car is 100% complete, not missing a thing. The front left fender and edges of the hood need work (see pics) everything is repairable if need be, but I would rather just replace the fender to save time ( 54-55 2dr and 4dr are the same, not hard to find) Rust is not to bad for its age, body mounts are all solid, floors need patch panels. Worst spots are the rear roof pillars and a little in the lower front fenders. All this could easily be cut and patched with a piece of metal in a day. Rear quarters, rockers and trunk are great. Again nothing has been patched up before so no hidden suprises. All trim and chrome is present. Bumpers are straight and the rear bumper ends are not rotted out. Windshield has 1 hairline crack going down it ( same windshield for all 54-56 caddy and buick coupes, not hard to find) INTERIOR- interior is in good unrestored condition. Dash is all intact and in good condition, just dirty. Front seat is not ripped, headliner is good with all the chrome strips there. Rear seat is seam split and the arm rests are ripped up. Overall a good cleaning and some chrome polish on the dash and it is pretty decent to drive around while you restore it. ELECTRICAL- all the power windows work, power seat works, the gauges and warning lights work, dome light comes on when the doors open, all the exterior lights work as do the factory fog lights. Window tracks need greased up. Again I have not messed with anything or attempted to clean it up at all. SUSPENSION- I lowered it quite a bit, cut front springs, removed 2 leafs out of the rear and added lowering blocks with new hardware. The leafs are included. All the original hupcaps are there with the bronze center caps. Tires are old school wide whitewalls, they have very good tread but are very old. I have done my best to talk it down, but I can assure you the car is mechanically sound and snaps necks when I drive it, its hard to find a good running, cool looking car like this that you don’t have to sink thousands into just to get it on the road. Plus its all there. BUYING TERMS- this is a 56 year old un restored car, if you do not understand the whole “needs fully restored” thing do not bid on my car. Do not waste my time with stupid questions. This is a rare collectable Cadillac and is easily a $25,000 car fixed up. Do not bid on it before you have your finances in order and your wife’s permission. Car is for sale locally and auction can be ended at any time. $1000 DEPOSIT DUE 24 HOURS AFTER AUCTION ENDS, FULL PAYMENT DUE IN 7 DAYS. Please do not bid if you have no feedback. I strongly suggest anyone serious about purchasing this car to set up an appointment to see it in person to make sure it is what you truly want. * I prefer paypal to be used for the deposit only. If you wish to use paypal for the full amount you will be responsible for paying their fees. * Overseas buyers welcome, if my reserve price is met, I will drop the car off personally at California Shipping with all the paperwork. On Oct-11-10 at 17:59:39 PDT, seller added the following information: Today I was able to take some time and clean out the trunk and jack the car up to get some pictures posted of the body mounts. All the body mounts look great. the floors are actually not that bad ( when I had felt with my hand before I was feeling the rotted out mufflers ) there are just a few spots to patch in the floor area. The trunk had one spot in the far right corner ( flat spot mabye 4in.x3in ) that I did not see before because of all the crap in it but the rest looks great. When I did the water pump, I flushed out the heater cores and replaced some of the lines. the heater/ defrosters do work. I have been receiving a lot of questions about the car, I wanted to post up the answers to the questions that keep getting asked... * What is your reserve ? It is set at 7,800 * How much to buy it now ? please see the above answer and if you dont want to wait for the auction make a resonable offer. * Since you say the car runs and drives, can I drive it home to texas ? NO, it runs and drives around town but has been sitting for 30+ years and everything should be inspected, tuned up, adjusted etc... but for it being a 1954 that has had a rough life it actually seems to run pretty good. * Is that the original paint and does it have any chips and scratches ? The car looks to have been painted once many many years ago and is not in great shape by any means, it still kinda shines and I think it looks neat old and worn instead of some cheap flat black paint job, but like the description says, the car needs completely restored. the original color appears to have been black as well. * Do you want to trade for my 1976 pickup truck, its worth 20k but I will just trade it straight across for your caddy ? No trades. Im selling it for financial reasons. If any serious buyers have any questions please feel free to ask. I have had a good amount of interest in the car and am trying to be as honest as I can about the car
