Vehicle Detail
Re-listed due to non-paying out of state bidder. 1966 Ford Mustang 2 door Coupe in Signal Flare Red with White Interior, 200 ci 6 cyl with Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. Complete Restoration inside and out. Fresh paint in flawless, showroom condition. This is a consistent show winner that was stored in a climate controlled environment. Engine and transmission are in excellent condition, I recently took a 2 hour trip on the interstate at 70 mph, it is fully capable of being a daily driver even though it is a show vehicle. This was recently inspected by a shop at the request of a potential buyer and the only things they noted were a U-joint should be replaced (small vibration), the right brake pulls a bit (4 wheel drums tend to do this after sitting), and they recommended new shocks (not sure why they said this, it handles just fine). On Oct-01-10 at 14:31:16 PDT, seller added the following information: ADDITIONAL NOTE: I am receiving questions regarding why the car was not paid for. The car was relisted because a college student from California won the auction and after three weeks of "planning" was financially unable to drive here to see the car. When I was asked to split costs for an escrow service that would ship and transfer money, I finally re-listed the item because of the bidders lack of common sense when buying a vehicle that says BUYER RESPONSIBLE FOR SHIPPING and FULL PAYMENT DUE WITHIN 7 DAYS. (Due date is negotiable if you are a distance away, but within reason) BODYWORK: There are NO dents, NO scratches, No orange peel, NO fading, NO ugly bondo, NO misaligned panels, NO bubbles, NO cracking, NO dull areas, NO repairs, NO paint mismatch, NO touch ups REGARDING RUST: There is not a single spot of rust on the entire exterior body panels and 99% of the interior body of this vehicle, no rust on the bumpers anywhere-the photos are showing dirt and lint, not scratches or rust. The underbody has ONE spot of rust about 3" long that was repaired underneath the left rear floorboard, it was repaired with a metal panel and about 1/2" of very hard commercial underbody coating, not the soft junk you get off the shelf at the auto parts store in a spray can. The rest of the underbody was recoated a few years ago with some places peeling or cracking with minor surface rust. The underhood metal looks new everywhere except someone in the past got a bit wild with undercoating along the top of the firewall, and it is not glossy smooth like the rest of the underhood. MISCELLANEOUS: Tires are like new and have very few miles on them, all accessories are fully operational (all dash switches, dash lights, radio, 2-speed wipers, heater, all headlights, turn signals, brake lights) MINUS the washer fluid pump. A stock (reproduction) washer fluid bag is hanging on the fenderwell, and the pump/lines installed, except the line to the washer nozzles was torn off in the middle, the pump does not do anything when you press the button. The radio is a cheap aftermarket Kraco cassette player that looks like new. It was in the car when I bought it, and it sounds awful. I have a more authentic looking chrome knob 8-track player in it's original box I was going to put in the dash but never got around to it, it is free if you are into that sort of thing and can't stand cheap tape players in the dash of a 60's car. I regret that someone CUT the dash and a factory stereo may never be installed without welding in an aftermarket dash insert panel, however the finish on the dash looks like it did new in 1966 and I wouldn't touch it for fear of ruining something that looks that nice. EXHAUST: The car runs very very very quiet, the muffler is older and the previous owner sprayed silver over an older muffler to make the car look good from behind for shows. It has not flaked off but has rusted a bit. There are no leaks in the exhaust but it is not new either except for the exhaust manifold and donut gasket. DRIVEABILITY: The car starts with one pump of the pedal every time, even after sitting. The engine runs extremely quietly and the transmission shifts very smoothly. The transmission fluid stays red and the oil stays clear. I was told the engine and transmission were rebuilt by the previous seller, I did not do the work so I can not guarantee it was done but the engine does look very fresh, while the transmission is oily/dirty underneath the vehicle. I WILL PERSONALLY WARRANTY THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION TO THE ORIGINAL BUYER FOR $1,000 FOR ONE YEAR FROM THE AUCTION ENDING DATE OR 10,000 MILES WHICHEVER COMES FIRST IF YOU ARE WITHIN DRIVING DISTANCE OF 500 MILES AND I CAN INSPECT THE VEHICLE. SUSPENSION: The vehicle handles great in the road and drives very straight. The rear suspension is a bit stiff because someone installed coilover shocks (NO MODIFICATION TO THE FRAME) instead of regular shocks, maybe to give it a lifted stance in the rear, a lot of older vehicles tend to sag low in the back from old leaf springs. REASON FOR SELLING: I am building an electric vehicle and need the cash and space for the project, I also never drive the mustang but on a sunny day and it is just a lot of money taking up a parking space. IF INTERESTED: This is extremely wild, but I do have a friend that will sell a Ford 460 engine from a Lincoln Continental Mark IV, if you want to really go to town and have something to put the Fear of God in modern vehicles. Contact me about this because it is neither a cheap nor easy swap by any means, and 99% of people will not do a project this extreme because of the extensive modification required to the engine bay, suspension, brakes, etc.
