Vehicle Detail

This 1995 Force was purchased from GMB batteries in 1997. They had used it for a demo unit at battery shows, so it stayed in a garage until there was a show. My mother is now 87 and decided she does not want to drive any car anymore. It currently has 14,000 miles. All parts are standard except the Manzanita Micro charger PFC20. The Brusa failed too many times. Tires are about one year old, batteries were last replaced Feb 2007 but have very few miles on them. The set before this were replaced in 1999. The car is a burgendy red rather than the typical white. 1995 was the first year of the gear box instead of the drive belt so it is almost identical to the 1999 Solectria Force. This one needed very little work, one 5K pot for the accelerator, but that is all I recall. The seats headrest was removed because my mom is short and could not see over them. Solectria built about 700 Force in the 90's. Most were lead/acid but they did have a Nicad and NiMH option. This is a lead/acid version (13 each 12 volt gel batteries) and has a range of between 30 and 60 miles with new batteries. The company, Solectria, was purchase by Azure Dynamics, which is still in business and still helps many owners with specialized parts and suggestions for repair. Many standard type car repairs can be done at any service shop. There is an owner's manual that gives some detail about service that is specific to the Force. There is also a distribution list of Solectria owners that can be very helpful for problems when they come up. Selectria-ev.groups.yahoo.com. Top speed is 65 to 70. There is a speed control switch to limit current which helps to control range. Some Force owners have been upgrading to Li-ion batteries and I have heard that the cost is between $6K to $10K for this upgrade. It is best to have this done by someone that really knows what they are doing. There are some very small scratches on the left side of the car where a neighboring car door must have been resting on the Force when the neighbor got out of their car. I expect these might rub off with a good wax. Other than this, the car is in really good shape.
