I am selling this Mercedes Benz 280SE 4.5 on behalf of a friend of mine who purchased it on eBay in May 2005 for $3,307.57, since when it has been driven less than 100 miles. My friend lives in Europe and his intention was to have the car shipped there. I collected the car on his behalf from the eBay seller and drove it aproximately 60 miles, mostly on the freeway, before garaging it for him. I have started the car and let it warm up periodically but have not driven it on the street since that time. Well, the years have gone by and it never did get shipped abroad, and at this time the decision has been taken to sell the car. I have fitted a new battery and the car fires up instantly. The motor runs well and I have driven the car up and down a private driveway several times. Unsurprisingly, the mechanical functions seem to operate just as they did when I drove the car following its purchase in 2005. As always seems to be the case, the pictures do make the car look somewhat better than it is life-sized. Having said that the car is certainly presentable and the dark blue color suits it well. It is not without its share of minor imperfections and has a few small chips and dings--a couple of the more noticable ones are pictured. The interior is very nice with the worst defect being that the wood srip that runs along the base of the windshield has delaminated at the passenger's end. I took a picture of this through the windshield. The car has an electric sunroof which works well and electric windows which also work fine except for the driver's one. It sounds as though something may be slipping inside the door, and the motor only raises the window part way. The expensive bumpers are in good shape, with just some minor pitting in the chrome. By far the worst is the left rear which is pictured. Underneath, this California car is completely solid. The car could likely be used as it is, but I would recommend going through it first. Given that it is an almost 40 year old automobile which has not been driven in some time I am selling it strictly AS IS with no warranty of any kind. The car has not been registered for some time and there would be a total of $505 due to the CA DMV for registration. If you are a CA resident please remember this and bid accordingly. If your intention is to export the car or take it to another State this will obviously not be an issue. The car is located in Concord, CA 94521 from where the buyer will need to arrange its collection. I may be able to help with delivery in the San Francisco Bay Area at minimal cost, but please check with me about this or any other questions before bidding. What my friend has done in this case makes no financial sense. The opening bid is a fraction of what he paid for the car less than 100 miles ago, and there in no reserve. I require a $250 deposit paying through PayPal within 24 hours of the auction's end and the balance paying within 7 days. Please be serious if bidding. This represents a good opportunity for someone.
