Vehicle Detail
These cars are becoming more rare everyday. My 1972 Volvo 1800E was manufactured in 1971 and delivered to Volvo Village "New England's Oldest & Largest Volvo Dealer" in Newton Center, Mass. It was sold new to Arthur Schein on June 26, 1972. It had several owners after that date until it was bought by a Doctor in Highland Park, IL December 12, 1998. It was an older restoration that was used as a daily driver. The good doctor had some paint work and mechanical repairs done to keep it in good running order. His son drove it between Chicago and Champaign, IL (U of I campus) routinely. I have receipts totaling nearly $15,000.00 for various repairs made at Volvo dealerships during the period of the doctors ownership. I purchased it from him May of 2003. In seven years of ownership, I drove it sparingly, only during the summer months. It had 94,000 when I bought it, it now shows 96,971. THAT'S ABOUT 425 MILES A SUMMER! This past spring I spent $1900.00 having the fuel system rebuilt. New fuel injectors/seals/fuel regulator/pump/hoses/clamps, etc. The vehicle runs very good and is in good overall mechanical condition. It is in need of a "new home" and owner, who can do some cosmetic restoration to make the body and paint look new. The interior is above average but the drivers seat needs to be recovered. Ron Thibault Volvo in Sandwich, MA specializes in restoration/parts for P1800 series volvos. Also IPD has parts for this classic machine. With a bit of elbow grease and some basic body repair skills, one can have a really nice ride that turns heads..FOR CHEAP! I just don't have the time or money to bring it to the condition it deserves. Brand new it cost $5,000+($240) for AM/FM radio+($475) for A/C for a total price of $5715.00 add 12.00 for paperwork fees and $117.45 for sales tax brought the total price to $5844.45. A large sum back than. He put $100 down and was given a trade in allowance of $1800.00 for a 1970 Olds Cutlass 2 door hard top Blue in color, with 26,000 miles. (How much is that worth today?) Bringing the balance due to $3944.45. This Volvo was an older restoration, in need of another restoration, but it runs, and drives and looks decent. But there is some rust beginning in the usual spots. Patch panels are readily available from various sources. It has 4 wheel disc brakes, A/C (not working) and was originally an automatic but was changed to a 4 speed with electric overdrive at some point in its life. I have an old appraisal from 1983 that listed it valued at $5,300.00 and worth preserving. The car is in remarkable condition for its age. But keep in mind it is being sold as is, due to the fact it is nearly 40 years old. I have truly enjoyed owning it and wish to find someone to care for her, and enjoy her as much as I did. It was my intention to finish the body and paint but I have limited skills and in my area (Chicago) everything is way more EXPENSIVE than just about anywhere else in the country. Its what we call a "corruption tax" higher costs thanks to our thieving politicians!Questions call Bill 773-719-9208
