It was a lightweight and nimble handling rear-engine rear-wheel-drive 2-door sports car available in hardtop and convertible configurations. Design innovations continued during the years of manufacture, contributing to its motorsports success and popularity. Production started in 1948 at GmÜnd, Austria where approximately 50 cars were built. In 1950 the factory relocated to Zuffenhausen, Germany and general production of the 356 continued until April 1965, well after the replacement model 911 made its autumn 1963 debut. It is estimated approximately half of the total production of 76,000 356s still survive. This reliable 356 is a fantastic driver quality example. It has an older restoration, yet still presents quite well. The interior includes new carpeting, restored gauges, and brand new leatherette seat covers and cushions. The exterior shines with fresh paint and bright chrome, including the wheels. All floor pans and door jams are completely solid, and protected by new undercoating. The reliable, period correct “B” motor in the 356 has been mechanically overhauled and always starts first try. A half-cab tonneau cover and un-restored hardtop accompany the car; this example lacks soft top assembly. Offered with a complete set of original 356 date coded wheels, and original steering wheel!
