Vehicle Detail

Car bought along with a couple of others last year. Plan was to fix up and drive. It never happened. Ninety five year old gentleman, who was a former Detroit detective and jazz musician had amazed mega dollars worth of exotic cars. (This wasn't one of them, though nice car) As time has gone by, he has sold them all-except his '29 stainless steel Cadillac from the late actor Hoot Gibson. His multi-car garage is now completely empty. But in its heyday had to be a gathering hotbed for automobile enthusiasts in the South. Many of his former cars were in the movies, shows, rallies and so forth. I bought this Imperial from him. It wasn't one of his collector cars. Just an everyday car he bought back in '86 when it was about 20 years old. He did make note of the car in his book, he wrote a small passage about this particular car...."The other car (I bought in 1986) was a 1967 Chrysler Crown Imperial, a spur of the moment deal brought about because of a visit to Powell's Auto Parts store. While in the store, Herbert Powell the owner told me about the Chrysler. He said he was going to call me about the car because he knew I would buy it once I saw it. After listening to his description of the car, I obtained the owner's address and promised to take a look. The owner lived about five miles from me on the Cave Spring Road where he operated a clean-up shop. Because I always enjoy looking at beautifully restored or original older cars, I drove the five miles and found Herbert Powell had not exaggerated. The car looked almost new. The asking price was $2500. "I took the car for a drive and discovered the motor was only running on seven cylinders. I drove the car to two mechanics to get their opinions. Both men told me it was probably a burnt valve and would cost approximately $200 for a valve job to correct the problem. I drove back to the owner and told him what I had been told and then offered him $2300 for the car. He agreed and after a few moments and I owned a beautiful Chrysler Imperial. "When I arrived home, I raised the hood to check the spark-plug wires. In so doing, I noticed that a heat shield that deflected the heat from the spark plug had slipped, causing it to short out. I moved and tightened the shield, started the motor, and no more misfire. I saved $200." All I can tell you is he has a great love for automobiles. Obviously the only thing left when I met him, were the culled ones left for dead in the once prestigious garage behind his mountain home and swimming/party/social gathering area. Once moving back home to Georgia, it was cars and parties. He knew how to have a good time...and can tell you where Jimmy Hoffa is. This car was driven by me home to Woodstock, GA...about an hour and a half away. We put a master cly. on it before leaving his place. Still the brakes are not the best, and hope to bleed the wheel cylinders before I sell it. This car has sat since the day I bought it and drove home, and obviously the years before that. I have put a battery in it, cranked it, washed it, and taken pictures for this ad. I turned the A/C on and hot air blows out. I really didn't expect it to work. About half of the electric switches don't work that roll the windows up/down. The vent window "switch" works on the driver side, and the 2 main windows work on the passenger side-note I had the windows down for one picture-and one tire I have had to add air. I don't know what else to say about the car. Obvious age/cracks on the seats, yet the headliner is like new. Some time needs spent on the electrical gadgets. Side mirror has manual switch and works fine. I guess send me a message and I will call you to answer any questions. I will look in the glovebox but I don't think there is a title to car, though it doesn't need one. Thanks!
