Vehicle Detail

It is with great sadness that I put my car up for sale a second time. I am selling my 1987 190E 2.3-16 which I have had since September 2002 (with 133k miles). I sold it last year and repurchased it from the buyer a few months later because I missed it too much, but my financial situation now forces me to sell it again. It has been my pride and joy and has been meticulously cared for and maintained. Some of you might have seen my original ad, so I have rewritten it and am reposting below as some changes were made to the car (for the better!) since last time it was for sale. Since buying the car in September 2002, I have invested over $25k in parts and labor. The valves were adjusted, the gas tank was drained and cleaned, a new water pump and radiator were installed, and a new timing chain, chain tensioner, and all chain rails were installed (the whole front timing cover of the engine had to come off). Door checks were replaced, the exhaust was fully replaced including the front pipe and cat (pre-cats were deleted), climate control was rebuilt, and much more. Since then, I have kept it in top shape by changing the oil every 3 months. Tune ups were done once a year: spark plugs, filters, coolant and brake fluid flush, adjust engine valves. Modifications done to the car include: The rear SLS suspension was deleted and performance springs and shocks were installed, Evo 2 rear swaybar and sportline front was installed, the engine fan was deleted, the driveshaft was gone through and the problematic vibration damper deleted, a larger 143 amp alternator was installed, bigger 400E Mercedes brakes were installed, etc etc. In addition, a new stereo and speakers were installed with a hidden subwoofer where the first aid kit used to be. The stereo is well balanced, plays MP3’s and regular CD’s, and it has an auxiliary input jack so that you can plug in an Ipod. In March 2007, I gave the car to a very reputable race shop (Porsche & German car specialist) for a full drivetrain rebuild. They went through absolutely everything and replaced as needed: New flex disks and bolts on the driveshaft, full front end rebuild including tie rods, new springs, full alignment, and finally engine work. For the engine, they removed the stock intake and fuel injection system and replaced it with TWM 48mm throttle bodies and a Haltech E8 Engine Control Management system. The car was dynoed at 185 hp at the rear wheels. Figuring a 15% drivetrain loss, that means the engine now makes 213 hp at the crank!! Stock Mercedes 16v engines dyno at between 130-140 at the wheels which equates to about 160-165 at the crank, in other words this car has 50 more HP than a stock 16v. Full cost was $17,893 for this rebuild. The engine was deemed to be in perfect shape and is probably the healthiest stock 16v engine out there. A wideband O2 gauge resides where the lap timer was and ensures the air/fuel mixture is correct. In all my years of ownership, the car has never left me stranded and has always started up and driven smoothly. Only small things have needed attention. Mechanically, this car is perfect. Known faults of this car are only cosmetic. The car was involved in an accident in its history, but it was a minor fender hit and the car was NOT salvaged. I ordered the police accident report before purchasing the car to be sure, and also inspected the car on a chassis jig to be sure it was straight and it was. There is no rust on this car. The faults are: 1. On the exterior, the trim pieces under the front headlights need to be repainted (I am including a second set with the car), the hood has the usual chips from many years of service, and there are small scrapes here and there. 2. On the interior, there is a crack in the middle of the dashboard, the shift knob is a little worn, and the door panels on the top of the rear doors have become unglued as is the case with most 190E’s. 3. The A/C system has a hose leak, and needs to be recharged once a year in order to blow cold. The system was entirely replaced except for the hoses, that was my next step but I never got around to it. I am looking to at least recoup some of the cost of the engine work, so I am hoping to get over $8,500. RESERVE IS UNDER $6,500!! You will never find a mechanically more perfect 16v and given the modifications it is worth it for the price! Please message me with any questions or for more pictures. I also have 2 videos of the car running. The car was recently inspected by my mechanic at the German car race shop and found to be in excellent condition with no mechanical issues. Car is located in Queens, NY. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, but I will assist in any way possible (I can drop the car off at a shipping terminal). Buyer must pay $1,000 deposit within 48 hours of auction close, balance is payable by paypal, cashier's check, or cash. Good luck bidding.
