Vehicle Detail

1988 300zx 2+2, non-turbo, for sale. I have owned this for seven years, but I just bought a BMW 540i, and need to sell the Z. I bought it originally for my daughter, but she did not like it, so I took it over. It has been my daily driver for seven years. It has a salvage title, but it was repaired by a company in El Paso that specializes in rebuilding. I saw the before pictures, and it was a minor hit on the passenger side. The car has a total of 118,7xx miles, very low for this year. The engine runs strong. I checked the compression at 110k miles, and all cylinders showed great compression. The car originally had an auto transmission, but three years ago, I swapped the auto for a 5 speed manual. The swap was seamless and works great. The manual transmission is showing some wear now and whines some in 3rd and fifth gear. It will need to be rebuilt sometime in the future, but it still works fine. It is the non-turbo 300zx, but it is fast. With no parasitic drain of the cooling fan, new air filter system, and free-flowing exhaust, it is fun to drive. I usually get 29+ mpg on the highway going 70.It has T-tops, and both work well. The seals are in place, and only during hard rains do they leak a few drops. Excellent for age of car. I have replaced many items: a walbro fuel pump, oxygen sensor, MAF, new front struts and back shocks, newer spark plugs, wires, and condenser; a new Maxima alternator (higher amperage), and a newer, high quality electric fan with an adjustable thermostat (which work great). I replaced the timing belt and water pump at 110k miles, so it has 50k+ miles before that change. It has a new brake master cylinder, I rebuilt the rear caliper, and all brake pads have been replaced within the last year. It has a new aluminum oversized radiator, new hoses, a new a/c condenser, and a/c drier. I replaced the a/c system last year, and at the time, the compressor worked fine. Now it’s getting a little tired. The a/c works fine on the highway, but in town, during New Mexico summers, it does struggle. However, all it needs is a new compressor—the other a/c components are new. The paint is three years old and is in good condition except for the hood—as seen in pictures. It needed a different, etching primer for the hood. I still have a quart of paint left if the owner is interested. The interior is fine for a 22 year old car. The front seats have seat covers, and the back have some rips and could use some seat covers. The dash has a carpet cover, which works great. The digital dash works great, and shows all functions except for water temperature, which flashes off and on at will. The electrical systems work fine. I get no problem codes from the computer, and the sensors are doing their job. It starts easily, idles high for warmup, and then idles at 6-700 rpm, right in spec. The windows role up and down, the electric locks work as they should, the headlights work in dim and bright (it has a new light switch), the blinkers work, the horn works; pretty much everything works, and if it wasn’t, I usually fixed it. The tires need to be replaced now, but I still drive it daily. I drive it to Albuquerque (500 miles roundtrip) and would not hesitate to drive it anywhere--but with new tires. With some new paint on the hood and some transmission work, it would be almost perfect. In fact, if I don’t get it sold on EBay, I will simply save it for my son, who will get his license in 1 year. But I could use the money to add some mods to my BMW....Hear the engine on youtube video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-2aPdoid98
