Vehicle Detail

This 1976 RE-5 was bought by me in 1998 from the original owner in Denver, Colorado. He had purchased it in about 1977 from a local Suzuki dealer, who had leftover '76's in stock and dressed them up with extras in order to get rid of them. This bike has an original dealer applied luggage rack and aluminum handlebar attachments. The previous owner then put the 8900 miles on the bike (the speedo looks good and original) and then an attempt to steal it was made by breaking the starter key with a screwdriver, but the theft attempt failed. Because the switch was broken, the owner "retired" the bike. I bought it with the intention of restoring it but those plans were ended when I got a job out-of-state. Before leaving I rebuilt the brakes (which had seized up) with NOS parts, bought new tires, had the wheels tuned, painted the gas tank and applied the gold pinstriping and got the bike to turn over but it wouldnt start. The seat was wrecked so I bought a beautiful used one in decent condition. I purchased a ton of smaller NOS parts from rotaryrecycle.com including the chromed hose covers and a few extra spark plugs such that the bike is essentially complete. I removed the carb and began to rehab that when I got the call to move out of state and the restoration was over. It never ran when I owned it. I never cracked the case open. It turns over fine and ran thru the gears fine when turning over and engaged. I wont finish the restore job, so here it is, up for bid. With a low starting bid price, you get a complete 1976 RE5. The engine number is 15871 and the frame is 15975. Its listed on the old rotaryrecycle registry because I sent in the info plus a picture in early 1999. I tried to get a replacement title from Colorado last week because my original was lost but the title number (12M134779) had been purged from Colorado's records. So I dont have the title. This shouldnt be an issue in any state if your want to register it. I also have the original parts catalog, the dealer supplied literature and an original repair catalog. These three books got wet in a snowstorm but i've got them anyway. I have about 4 old suzuki rotary plugs. You'll get all of the extra parts too. No, I wont divide this bike up for parts. All or none. Please note: I wont ship this bike. You'll need to come get it and I will release it after payment has been made. Cash or paypal. Call 6268621489 for preview. You have 24 hours to make a nonrefundable deposit of $100 through Paypal. On Sep-02-10 at 14:02:02 PDT, seller added the following information: revision made September 2 to answer questions and phone calls: Yes, this is the RE-5A. I last paid for the Colorado plates for the 2000 year, but did not title or plate it in California. I've run through all of my stuff and simply cant find the old title, but will try so again. Also, i over-estimated the number of extra parts I've got because some of the parts in my boxes are from other old suzies: most of the parts i bought in 1999-2000 i put on the bike and junked the trashed old ones. I started working on the carb in late 1999 but stopped and havent done a thing since. The last time the motor turned over using the battery/switch was that time. The bike turns over using the kick starter. I replaced the broken starter key switch and as I recall, the bike came with one key for the starter, one key for the gas tank lock and the one key for the seat lock was the starter key. Also, i replaced the chrome hose covers found on these bikes with used replacements. Yes, I do have the right hand side plastic cover: its on the luggage rack in the photo. Anyway, you get it all when you pick it up. Finally, only 500 of the 1976's are on the registry, even though supposedly 1500 were sold. This is one of the rarest bikes out there. My opinion is that if you have the patience, you can get the engine seals rebuilt and theres no good reason why it wont run just like the one Jay Leno's got!!!
