Vehicle Detail
The following is a 1988 Lotus Esprit that is in really nice condition. The car has 39,319 miles with outstanding paint/body (near flawless) and a nice interior. The car is an original red car and it is a great color combination. The car does have a clean Carfax and is accident free. The previous owner had taken the car to a body shop near Houston Texas for repainting and during the repainting of the car the previous owner skipped the country (went back to the UK) in order to avoid paying taxes. I purchased it from the body shop with a clean title and I have no liens on the car. The engine and chassis numbers all match. The car sat for some time because of the previous owner skipping out of the United States and as a result the engine will not start. The car is a lifetime southern car. I have spent a number of years owning restoring exotic sports cars and I own a V8 Esprit as well. I know these cars very well and your calls/e-mails are most welcome (I love talking Esprit). The following is an honest and forth right appraisal of the condition of the car. I have receipts for all the components mentioned below as well as a number of photographs for the work stated below. My name is Alan and you reach me at (502) 867-6971 between 3:00 – 9:00 PM EST. If you are interested in a PPI or you would like to see the car prior to purchase please contact me. I am not interest in any trades and please do not ask. Body: Has been repainted and it is bright, shiny, and straight. The passenger side window as some minor scratches and should easily polish out. The decklid struts need to be replaced and they can be purchased from Advance Auto Parts for about $40 for the pair. Electrically: The battery (Advance Auto) has been replaced with a premium unit. The driver side window does not operate (motor or electrical connection) along with the driver side headlight. The passenger driving light has a small hole in it and should be replaced. Engine: The engine as previously stated does not run. I cannot get the fuel pumps to turn on and I have not had a lot of time lately to look into it (my wife and I are both getting our MBA and we have a special needs child). I have replaced the primary pump (JAE) and fuel filter (JAE). This summer I pulled the engine and replaced the timing belt (JAE) as well as the other drive belts (NAPA - Gates). The timing belt tension was correctly set with a Lotus Burroughs Gauge and the tensioner bearing was correctly positioned. The plugs and plug wires have been replaced with NGK. The upper end gasket replaced (valve covers, intake). The oil pan was removed and cleaned inside as well as I primed the engine with engines oil pump. I have done three oil changes with Mobile One and K&N oil filters during the oil priming process (I wanted clean oil the motor). At cold temps the oil pressure was over 60 psi @2000 rpm. I replaced the oil cooler (OEM brand Setrab) with a new one and it is size larger than OEM. The valve covers and intake were repainted. The entire engine and transaxle were cleaned along with the frame. I checked compression on a cold engine and received the following results #1 122, #2 120, #3 122, and #4 124 please keep in mind this is on a cold engine. I have done a leak down as well on a cold engine and the values were within eight percent in the low/moderate leak range on my gauge. Please keep in mind both the compression and leak down were done on a cold engine. I feel the engine will run without a great deal of effort. Note: The engine has not been modified and the exhaust is completely OEM with catalytic converter. It is not missing anything. Gas Tank: Both the left and right have been removed and abrasive blasted. Then they were sealed with a half a gallon per tank with Caswell gas tank (great product) and then five coats of POR 15. The tanks do not leak! Transaxle: The transaxle shifts smoothly and I replace the fluid with Royal Purple 75-90w. I replaced the clutch (JAE) while I had the transaxle and engine out of the car along with the pilot bearing (Spigot). The CV boot (cracked) will need to be replaced. New stainless steel clutch line (JAE) and new clutch slave cylinder (JAE). Interior: It is quite nice condition and the carpet has been replaced (SJ Sportscars) as well as new floor mats (Lloyd Mats/JAE). Tires/Wheels: The tires are about sixty percent tread left and the wheels are OEM without any curb rash. The sale is for the car as is and where it is. If the buyer needs assistance with transportation, I will be happy assist, but transportation is not included in the auction. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. This is no reserve auction so bid to win and good luck!
