Vehicle Detail
1960 BMW R69- Excellent Unrestored Condition This auction is for a scarce 1960 BMW R69 (not an R69S) in excellent, unrestored condition. One of only 2,956 produced between 1955 and 1960, it's in beautiful shape for a 50-year-old bike. I've owned it for about ten of those years and have put less than a hundred miles on it in that time, mostly on nice, warm Sunday afternoons around the neighborhood. It's been trailered to a couple of car and motorcycle shows and ridden in a parade or two. The mileage stands at 20, 196 at the moment. The previous owner was a BMW dealership /2 and /5 mechanic, and prior to that, the bike was owned by the BMW dealership and used as their "courier bike" for picking up parts and lunch. The engine, plate and frame numbers match and all of the keys/locks are original, working, and intact. Although not perfect, the pictures show accurately how nice this bike actually is. The paint is nice with some touch-ups, nicks, and minor spot-repaints over the years. The chrome is very nice original condition, with some patina on the nickel-plated parts, and some minor freckles here and there. The bars are excellent, as are the clamps. There is no rust on the frame, and all of the aluminum parts are excellent, including the bat-wing levers. There is a small ding/dent in the top of the front fender of unknown origin. Most people don't even notice it. The bike has never been dropped or hit, and has never been out in the rain. It has always received timely and correct service, and all parts on the bike are either original or genuine German BMW replacement parts- there is no reproduction Turkish, Chinese or Vietnamese junk on this bike. As far as I have been able to ascertain, everything is correct to the year and model except for the petcock, which is a newer BMW unit. Both the previous owner and myself have enjoyed excellent access to genuine vintage BMW parts and used them for any repairs/service on this bike. The bike features original Hella bar-end turn signals, and a Georg "Schorsch" Meier seat. The seat is in excellent shape and was reupholstered awhile back using an NOS Denfeld seat cover obtained through BMW. All of the bulbs on the bike are either Hella or Philips German bulbs, no Chinese or AutoZone crap. The electrical system is still 6-volt and everything works as it should, including the (loud as hell) horn. The inside of the headlight bucket is immaculate, with no rust whatsoever and the rubber-stamped part numbers still intact. The tank is clean, with the original red coating in perfect condition. The inside of the horn is even squeaky clean. All of the cables are real BMW cables and in excellent shape. There are a couple of minor rubber parts that could use replacement but are still serviceable (battery strap is showing cracking; carb end throttle cable boots are as well). Switches all work and are original and correct to the bike. The gas cap is a period Blau locking cap. Mechanically, the bike is in great shape. All bearings and pivots were regularly serviced according to BMW's specifications. The trans, driveshaft housing and final drive were all recently drained and refilled with 90w Hypoid and the bike had a 40w oil-change recently as well. There are no leaks or bad gaskets, and I just set the valves last week. Generator output is within specs, and the trans shifts properly, although with typical BMW clunkiness. There is some rust starting on the rear underside of the mufflers; it's worse on the left than on the right, but doesn't typically show and has not changed the sound of the exhaust. The mufflers should be good for quite some time yet, and are readily available when the time comes. The tires are German-made Continentals, correct for the bike, but 30 years-old and in need of replacement. They're okay for putting around town, but I wouldn't take them out on the highway. The spokes were replaced with stainless-steel spokes when the tires were fitted. The aluminum rims are correct for the bike, original, and in excellent condition. The bike has a clear title, and included are 2 original keys for the Blau gas cap, 2 original Neiman keys for the tool box door/fork lock, and even the original spare "wallet" ignition key. You're welcome to come and see the bike anytime prior to the end of the auction. I'm located about 12 miles west of Chicago and easy to find and get to. However, there are no "test rides" without proof of a motorcycle endorsement on a valid license and a cash deposit equivalent to the reserve price. Sorry, no exceptions. Foreign bids are welcome, but as with domestic bidders, all transportation arrangements are the responsibility of the winner. I will make the bike available to your shipper and do my best to work with them to safely and promptly get the bike to you, but you must make the arrangements. The bike can be safely and securely stored for any reasonable amount of time provided it's paid for in full. The bike will not, under any circumstances, leave my sight before it's paid for- no exceptions. I would prefer a $1000 deposit within 24 hours of winning the bike; PayPal is acceptable for this. However, cash at the time of pickup, or a cashier's check or money orders are the preferred method of final payment. I will not release the bike until all funds have cleared (and I do call and check), so please arrange your pick up schedule accordingly. Thanks for looking, and please feel free to ask any and all questions and I'll do my very best to answer them! Powered by eBay Turbo Lister The free listing tool.
