1963 Studebaker GT Hawk R1 Avanti engine, Powershift Automatic, Power steering, Power disk brakes Serial 63V22708 -80345 Miles Be sure and follow the more pictures link at the end of my description ! As some of you may know, I find nice Studebakers around the country, fix them up and find new homes for them on Ebay. I bought this nice factory Avanti powered GT Hawk in California at well under the market price, and set a low reserve to match. I had a Studebaker friend drive it to his home near Woodland Ca to prep for resale. It had been a daily driver until the previous parked it for a few years before we bought it. The Avanti engine option was fairly rare, only a few 100 R1 engines were ordered in 1963 Hawks, and few survive today. The R1 engine was a modified version of the 289 Studebaker engine. The compression was increased to 10.5-1, a wilder cam, dual point distributor and was added, as were improvement in the oiling system. The car is well equipped with power steering, power disk brakes, tachometer, reclining buckets and more. As you would expect for a Black plate California car, the body is very solid with only minor rust bubbles here and there and a minor ding or two. The chrome and stainless is very nice. (See my friends comment down lower.) As far as we know, everything works except the clock. A previous owner recovered the front seats in non stock, matching fabric, but I'll sell the winning bidder a show new set of show correct covers if you intend to do a full restoration. (about $400) BTW, only a Studebaker guy would notice the difference, and the seats look great as-is. as does the rest of interior. The under hood is factory stock with all the factory components in place, but could stand same detailing of the paint and a rechrome. The automatic transmission was recently rebuilt, and the numbers matching engine runs strong. The power steering and brake options work just fine. Here's my friend's comments on the car after working on her: "This is a very nice driver quality car. The Avanti engine starts up immediately and idles smoothly. The transmission is a recent rebuild by Aamco Transmission. It shifts well and the car tracks straight down the road. The previous owner had not driven it much and the brakes were a little sticky when we first got the car. They now feel much better and stop the car without a problem, but as with any older car, the brakes should be looked at closely to be absolutely confident they are in tip top shape. The interior is in real nice shape, the front seats were upholstered in fabric and actually match the inside of the car well, in spite of the different material than on the rear seat, they are quite comfortable. This car sports a older repaint, it is very shiny and looks great. I have done a walk around on the car and see only minor bubbling in a couple areas. There are a few blemishes at the bottom of the front fenders and also at the rear near the trunk. I've had nothing but "thumbs up" since I've had the car, everyone that sees it, loves it. The glass is all good except the windshield which has a wiper scratch on the passenger side but it does not impair the drivers view of the road. This car is fun to drive and would be a fabulous car to own as a regular driver or to restore if you like." Our reserve is way under the 11K NADA average low book value and this is a far better than low value car.
