Vehicle Detail

Selling a nice '56 Chevy Belair that has excellent potential to be an outstanding car to restore back to original, build as a resto-rod or drive the way it is as a ratrod. Great winter project! It still wears it's original black and white paint. The black and white interior is original. Project cars like this are getting tough to come by! Body: The body on this car is in great shape for a car that's 54 years old. It still flaunts it's original Oynx black and ivory paint. Other than a couple of minor scrapes, it shows no sign of ever having been in a collision. The rear bumper has never been pushed into the rear corners of the car as was typical with a lot of them. The floor pans, rockers, trunk floor, wheel wells and tail pan are all solid. There is some eyebrow rust above the headlights that could easily be patched or I have two extra front fenders that can be used instead of the original fenders. There is a rust hole on each rear quarter panel in front of the rear wheel openings (see pictures) that could also be easily patched. No rust around the front or rear window channels. Some surface rust on the inside front floor pan but nothing that's eaten thru. Other than a few minor dents and dings, the only body damage on the car is a shallow scrape in the rear of the drivers side door that also extends into the front of the quarter panel (see pictures) and another shallow scrape on the front of the passenger side rear quarter panel. I'm guessing they were parking lot dings caused by the bumpers of other cars. With the exception of some scrape marks and grease stains, the trunk floor is very clean. The trunk lid has some minor surface rust along it's bottom inside edge in the vicinity of the latch. There are no rust holes in the spare tire recess. Even the battery tray is not rusted thru. The car has the seamless-style frame under it. Drivetrain: This car originally featured a 265 cubic inch V-8 backed by a cast iron Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission. The 265 comes with the car but is presently disassembled and I’m assuming could be rebuilt. Residing in it's place is a nice running, non-smoking 350 that came out of a '72 Chevelle. I do not know any details about the motor other than it was recently rebuilt and has a Holley four barrel carb on it. My intent was to get the car running and drive it as a "ratrod" until I could afford to build the car as a resto-rod. However, I haven't gotten that far. The 350 is mated to the Powerglide and bolted to the car but is not presently running. I never started building an exhaust system, hooking up the wiring or mounting the crankshaft and water pump pulleys. The radiator is recently new. The brakes will have to be gone thru. Not sure if the transmission works or not. Interior: The interior will have to be redone. The seat upholstry and door panels are original and worn. The original black carpet is gone. The dash and interior chrome is gorgeous but the black dash paint has lacquer cracks in it. The original radio is still in place. The gauge cluster and clock are very nice. The steering wheel is crack free. I believe a previous owner was intending to install a manual transmission as there was a Hurst shifter laying in the car when I bought it. There is a clutch pedal in place but there hasn't been a hole cut in the floor for a shifter yet. Cowl tag info: Style #: 56-10370 (1956 Sport Coupe) Body #: J 584 (Made in Janesville, Wisconsin) Trim #: 579 (Ivory and Charcoal) Paint #: 7 010 (India Ivory/ Onyx Black) Other stuff: The majority of the exterior chrome and stainless trim is in great condition. Very little pitting. The rocker panel molding, front fender extensions and gravel shields should be replaced. The grille is nice. The rear bumper is decent but should be rechromed. I have a freshly rechromed one-piece front bumper that is included. The glass is original without any bubbles along the edges but it will need a new front windshield because of rock chips. All the windows roll up and down smoothly. The doors open and close nicely. I have a few extra stainless trim pieces along with new front springs, rear shocks and a box of new odds and ends from Danchuk. The wheels presently on the car are some old Enkei aluminum simulated wire mesh wheels...15 x 7" front and 15 x 8" rear. The tires are brand new Cooper performance radials. I also have the original '56 hubcaps. If the plates are any indication, the last time this car was licensed and probably driven was 1975! If you have any questions or want to see more pictures, email me or call 406-698-2580 anytime. Leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Payment and delivery: I would prefer payment via cash, a certified check or money order. No cashier’s checks please. Paypal can be used for the down payment within 48 hours of the auction's end. The remaining balance is to be paid within ten days of the auction’s end or at the time of pickup whichever comes first. Once full payment is made I can send a notorized bill-of-sale along with the title to the buyer. I am willing to store the car for a little while until pickup or delivery arrangements can be made. I need the winter storage space so I prefer the car go away within a reasonable time frame. If the buyer needs help from my end making transport or deliver arrangements, please contact me and I will do what I can. Please keep in mind that the car doesn’t run under it’s own power. The buyer is responsible for any desired insurance that they may wish to put on the car.
