Vehicle Detail
1956 Ford Thunderbird original 312, 3 speed w/ overdrive. Originally from southern California with 51,000 original miles. It has a port hole window hard top and an attached tonneau cover for use when it is parked as a convertible. The original option of a tonneau cover provides more trunk space than cars with a soft top. This car is just like the one Suzanne Somers drove in the movie American Graffiti. It was restored in 1996 by the previous owner. Body was stripped, inner rockers and floors were replaced and the car was re-painted in its original color Colonial white. The hard top had a vinyl landeau installed (not an original option) that looks great. Most of the chrome was re-chromed and the under carriage was undercoated. It also had a new exhaust system which comes out under the bumper, the original exhaust goes through the bumper and the parts were purchased to do this, we just have not had the time to do so. The parts will be included with the purchase. The interior was new as well, the previous owner chose to go with 1955 colors of red and white with a new tonneau cover installed. The dash was repainted and has crazed slightly and may need to be redone but, still very presentable. The original AM radio was replaced with an AM/FM. The original (rare) radio will be included also. Seat belts were installed for safety. The engine heads have been rebuilt and a Holley carburetor was installed. A new water pump and a larger custom balanced performance fan were installed, so the car would run cooler in Arizona where the previous owner lived. Most of the front suspension bushings were replaced and the brakes were rebuilt. It has poly whitewall tires that are in great shape and look great also. The cold air block off plate is also still with the car to block off the hood scoop for cold weather driving. We purchased the car in 2003. We had the clutch assembly replaced and the transmission serviced in 2006. The car was lightly used for cruising and a few shows where we did get a few trophies for it. It has been garage kept and covered with a custom cover that will be included with the car. We have an original sales brochure and owners manual that will be included and a new battery was just installed. The car runs and drives great and is very user friendly. The paint is showing its age with slight crazing and some chips here and there but, not bad for a 14 year old paint job on 54 year old car. The car is very presentable and could be even better with a little tinkering here and there. We had a lot of fun with this car but, we are just too busy with our jobs to enjoy it the way it should be enjoyed. We do have a title for the car signed over to us but, Maine does not require a title for this old of a car therefore, we could not send it in to be in our name. You may have to talk to your local DMV about registering the car in your state with this situation. I have delt with this before and there are some forms you may have to send for me to fill out. Let me know if you have any questions. Shipping to be arranged by winning bidder. Thanks for looking. This has been relisted with a lower reserve.
