Vehicle Detail
Up for no reserve auction is a one of a kind 1990 Ford F350. This truck left the factory as a four door crew cab 4x4 with a 7.3 idi diesel. It was converted by the now out of business Centurion conversion company into the equivalent of a Ford Suburban. I acquired the truck about five years ago with 89000 miles on it in North Carolina. I have since invested in it having no intention of selling it. However, my vehicle needs of changed, so this one needs to go. I'm not sure if the mileage is actual since the odometer in these trucks do not count 7 digits. It currently has 31400 miles showing on the odometer, meaning I have put 44,400 since purchasing. After having the truck about a year, the conversion done by Centurion began to fail The roof section where the bronco tub was spliced onto the F350 cab became a problem and started leaking water. After having several shops look at it, no one wanted to tackle the repair. I measured the wheelbase and found it to be similar to that of an extended cab short box. I contracted southern truck on the east side of Michigan to remove the Centurion body and install an extended cab and a short box. I spent 10K having this done including paint. I have the receipt showing the vin number swap since the cab is a F150 cab. I never had the title changed, so the vin number on the title is that of the original F350 cab. I only used this truck in the spring, summer, and fall for vacations and pulling atvs and motorcycles. It has never seen a michigan winter. About two years ago (30,000 miles ago) the transmission started slipping. At that point I pulled the engine and transmission. The radiator, all coolant hoses, and belts were replaced. A new ATS transmission was installed along with a new ATS turbo. A new oil pan was installed on the engine along with a gasket set, glow plugs, and glow plug controller. I also had the front and rear driveshafts rebuilt/balanced and put on new Monroe shocks. The battery wiring harness was getting pretty corroded, so that was also replaced. The batteries are about five years old. A new ATS exhaust was installed. INTERIOR NOTES: The air conditioner works and has been converted to 134a. The stereo is a Kenwood CD player with Ipod cord and sirius satellite radio docking station. The sirius radio is not included. The dash is ok, but has a few cracks and misc holes from previous owners. The console is in good shape. The bucket seats are from a 95 f-series and have lumbar, but the lumbar is not hooked up. The seats and the door panels are grey, where the rest of the plastic panels and dash are blue. The grey door panels are in really nice shape. The power windows and power locks operate. The cruise control works. The intermittent wipers work. The heater core was replaced last year. The rubber floor is not ripped, but is kinda standing up in some spots. The rear seat folds, but gets stuck when laid flat. It will fold back up, but requires some effort. The plastic trim panels are stained, faded, and scratched in spots. The wrap on the steering wheel has some worn spots. Overall, the interior is pretty good for a truck of this age, but it is color mismatched and not perfect. EXTERIOR NOTES: The paint is holding up pretty well. There are some scratches, stone chips, and imperfections. I had the linex sprayed in the bed and along the lower edge of the truck to prevent stone chips a few years ago. The lower edge was done to prevent stone chips, not hide rust etc. The body is pretty much rust free. There is surface rust on the frame as pictured. There were some dents in the inside of the box that were linex'd over. The worst thing on the exterior is the tailgate. When the truck was painted, an aftermarket tailgate was used. It bent from a 180# guy standing on it. The grille was replaced with an oem piece a couple years ago. The headlight assemblies were also replaced at that time with some aftermarket units from NAPA. The tires are OK for now, but would need to be replaced within the next 10k. The box has two fuel doors, but there is only one tank in the rear. MOTOR NOTES: The motor starts and runs good. However, the injection pump is bad. The truck will start when the motor is cold and run all day. However, when the motor is hot, the truck is very difficult, sometimes impossible to start. This will definitely need to be addressed to make the truck 100% again. CHASSIS NOTES: There is a receiver hitch installed with 7 way and 4 way electric hook up. There is a new brake controller mounted in the cab, but I never wired it up. The receiver hitch does sit recessed a little behind the bumper, but I have not had any issues hooking anything up. All the brakes were replaced about 30k ago and are still working good. See the pictures of where Centurion spliced the frame. 4 x 4 works great. Overall, this is an excellent truck with tons of almost new parts. The biggest thing it needs is the injection pump. It is 20 years old and has been in a few different configurations, so its not an unmolested sweetheart. Feel free to ask questions. No trades, no low ball offers. Pre bid inspections welcome.
