Vehicle Detail
!!!Up for auction. Own a piece of history!!! A 1961 Corvette formerly owned by Minnesota Twins great and hall of famer, #34 Kirby Puckett. On May 25th, 1997 the Twins presented Kirby with this Corvette as appreciation for his historic career with the Minnesota Twins. The Minnesota Twins retired Kirby Pucket's number that day. As the story goes, Kirby was supposed to drive this car around the dome and wave to the crowd, but there was one small problem; Kirby didn't know how to drive a manual transmission. So, Al Newman got into the drivers seat and drove Puckett around the stadium. Later, Kirby was given 2 hours of instruction on how to drive a 4 speed, but never could get the hang of it. Kirby decided to make it an automatic transmission which is currently installed in the car. To be sold with the car is the numbers matching transmission (no linkage available). From inspection, the block appears to be a numbers matching dual carburetor, 270 horse power engine. Although, it currently has a single carburetor setup. On the side of the car, there are Fuel Injection emblems, but the car was never a fuel injected car. The person who restored the car for the Twins added the emblems before it was presented to Kirby. The body and paint is driver quality and a real "eye catcher" on the road. The car runs and drives nicely as we take it on periodic cruises, in which we typically go approximately 30 miles. The purchaser of this car will also get a photo copy of the original Kirby Puckett signed title from when the transfer took place. Also, professionally framed memorabilia from the day the Twins presented Kirby with the car. This car would be a great showpiece, collectable and investment with the baseball history that is connected to it. All questions and inspections that you may require need to be completed by the end of the auction or before bidding. The car is currently located in the Brainerd Lakes area. Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs. Payment must be cleared before car is turned over to buyer. This is a no-reserve auction! The winner of this auction is the new owner! Good Luck bidding! On Aug-21-10 at 20:15:08 PDT, seller added the following information: There have been a lot of questions about the 4 speed so I took pics of the numbers to help with the questions. The trans is date correct for the car which is highly collectable. WD2812 / Borg-Warner T-10 4-speed built the 28th day of April in 1961, on the 2nd shift. The T10-1C means it was built after 11/18/1960 in an aluminum case. Also sunday Aug 21st Minnesota Pioneer Press sports section will have an article about the car. Please take a look. Thanks!
