Up for auction is a 1979 BMW R100RS. It is in solid shape but isn't quite road worthy yet. It will need some attention and work, but it shows strong potential and has all the right "RS" parts. The bike was put away in running condition about 25 years ago. When stored, the fuel was drained but the bike was not expected to be put away for more than a winter. The bike was recently taken out of storage, some basic items were checked, the motor was found to be completely free, and the motor runs well. Condition This bike starts well, runs and will move under its own power but is NOT roadworthy. The brakes need a full rebuild, from the handlebar to the calipers. The rear brakes also need a full rebuild. The rotors all appear to be in great shape, with no apparent warpage. The motor will start up smoothly and quietly as it should. Slight valve ticking as there should be but no unusual engine noises. It does need many of the rubber seals replaced. The carbs have not been rebuilt, so some rubber may need to be replaced, but they were empty and clean throughout the entire storage. The fuel tank has absolutely no rust and is clean inside. It appears to have the entire original red lining intact. The transmission shifted through all the gears as smoothly as any airhead should. The clutch felt fine with limited parking-lot riding. The bike comes with a brand new Odyssey PC680 battery. When the fluids were drained after this bike's extended storage, all came out in pretty clean condition with absolutely no signs of moisture in any fluid. Cosmetically, this bike could use some work, as there is some oxidation and corrosion here and there, but overall it is not in bad shape. Included are the original Krauser bags, with keys, and the silver side covers. The original safety lock (found in the frame under the tank) is present as well. The title is free and clear.
