Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a 1996’ SL500. This SL is a one (female) owner vehicle from Oak Brook, IL. The vehicles first owner and her husband are a ‘car couple’ who’s collection includes 50’s and 60’s Ferrari’s and Alfa’s. This was a new car trade-in at an Audi dealership. This SL was built on 10/24/1995 and sold new on 12/11/1995. This SL has it’s original books with dealer stamps, two original keys and of course the gorgeous original hardtop. I bought this SL for my self and planned to keep for a long time, and serviced as if I was, however another opportunity came up and the SL has to go. Two separate shops, including the Mercedes dealer inspected the vehicle and described it as a very well cared for vehicle. When I bought the SL in Jan of this year with 93,000 miles on it, I turned it over to my dealer tech for a complete service. Below is a list of that service. Only new original OEM Mercedes parts were used. Service: 93, 225 /15 Jan 10 New – motor/engine mountsNew - transmission mounts New – hood insulation New – steering shock New – protective under shields (front engine tray wind deflector cover things) New – front tow hook cover New – drivers inside door handle New – transmission connector New – transmission fluid flush New – brake fluid flush New – synthetic oil change New – trunk shock New – floor mats New – trunk hinge harness 93,155 / 10 Jan 10 – new front strut mounts 89,280 / 26 May 09 - Oil, lube and filter 72,032 / 02 Aug 06 - starter motor 18,812 / 23 Dec 98 - Central locking electrical line 16,252 / 13 Jul 98 - heated seat switch 9,403 / 29 Jul 97 - 7.5K service 7,231 / 25 Mar 97 - electrical fan switch 5,725 / 10 Dec 96 - electro-hydro valve body housing 5,687 / 06 Dec 96 - side airbag sensor 4,980 / 08 Oct 96 - floor shift console cover 4,820 / 24 Sep 96 - relay starter electric lockout 3,365 / 27 Jul 96 - automatic trans engagement 1,589 / 08 May 96 - antenna splitter There are many SL’s for sale out there. Sadly, when these cars get older and on their 2nd and 3rd owners, people are unwilling to spend the money to keep these cars serviced. They spend the money on wheels and stereos but not on anything under the hood. I’ve done the opposite. The only cosmetic repair has been to re-spray the front bumper because the lower spoiler lip was cracked. I ran the the CarFax before I bought it and it was clean. This is a non-smoker car. This SL runs perfect and needs nothing. I have owned several MB and Porsches and always keep them tuned to the letter of the book. This SL is entirely stock with only MB genuine parts used. The SL’s hood shows it’s usual highway stone chips. I included a close-up pic, but it they are so small they may not show well in photos. The soft top is in great condition with it’s plastic looking great and no fading. This SL comes with it’s gorgeous color matched aluminum hardtop which I feel looks so much better then the soft top. The hardtop glass window is electrically heated. All lights, switches and electricals work on this car, including the a/c which blows cold. I recently, cleaned, clay bar’d, buffed and waxed the exterior bring out it’s deep blue, using only Zymol products. The interior is very clean with new floor mats, old ones are included. If this is your first SL, you will instantly fall in love with it’s silky 315hp V8 which pulls away silently like a jet. During my search, I specifically looked for a 96’-99’ SL500 because 96' was the first year of the 5speed transmission, which was reviewed as a major improvement to the old 4 speed trans. Also, 1999 was the last year of the 48-valve hand built motor, before they moved to the 32 valve motors, which the MB techs related are now as good. In fact MB went back to the original design in 2007. The car is located in Chicago near the Skokie border and is easy to show including weekends. The original title is clear and in hand.
