Vehicle Detail
-1983 Volkswagen Rabbit Pickup- -1.6 Turbo Diesel- Up for sale is a beautiful 1983 VW Rabbit Pickup Turbo Diesel. This truck is almost all original and has only been repainted the factory color. The truck as you can see from the pictures is one of the most beautiful Rabbit Pickups I and probably you will ever see. Most of them are all rusted out or laying in a junkyard, but this truck is very nice and has been well maintained. One of the best things about the truck is that it only has 123,204 miles on it, which is nothing out of these old VW Turbo Diesels. After some research in the year 1983 less than 2% of the Rabbit Trucks made were the 1.6 Turbo Diesel. This goes to show you how rare they were back then and how rare they are today to still be on the road. I can tell you that when I saw this truck my friend and I were at shock and awe on the condition that this truck is in. It's not perfect, but the very little flaws that it has doesn't take away from the true beauty of this truck at all. The dash has no cracks and is good condition. The seats and the floor are also in good condition, with the floors just needing a little cleaning. If you pull up behind the seats you will see it is in great condition, and as you can see from the pictures it still has the VIN Sticker on the rear wall from 1983. The only thing that has been added to the truck was it has a new Rhino Liner which makes the truck look great, and the bed is solid as can be underneath. Info about the truck: -Very Rare 1.6 Turbo Diesel Motor -Rare 5 Speed Manual Transmission -Rhino Liner -Has been repainted factory color. -All original but paint and Rhino Liner. -Excellent Condition -Very Little Rust anywhere. -123,204 Miles -Tires are good. -Body is straight as can be. -Engine Bay looks great. -New Timing Belt. -Lots of other new parts. This truck does need a very little bit of work. There was a small leak in one of the coolant hoses and the old man that I got it off of over heated the motor and blew the head gasket. The head is ready to come off and should be a simple fix. I am just putting it on here to see what we can get out of it as it sits, before we do the work to it. If it sells we will include what we already have to fix the truck, which is the valve cover gasket. I have called and got prices on everything that it will need which is mainly just gaskets and new head bolts just to be safe and that came to a total price of $60.00, and a local mechanic was going to charge me $400 to check the head and to do the work. The old man said the head is fine but just get it checked to be safe. There isn't any rust on the body anywhere and all of the frame rails look great! The last time the truck was running was two months ago and was running as great as ever. The 5 speed transmission shifts fine through all of the gears, the glow plugs are new, the block heater works great. Underneath the hood is in as good as condition as the outside. The only other small things that we noticed is that the headliner sags a little, looks like there was a little surface rust around the windshield at one time (not that noticeable,) and has some rust in the passenger side front wheel well. Other than that this truck is a rare classic and should be worth around $10,000 running according to a few local VW people that have seen the truck, and some articles that I have read on these VW Diesels. If the truck doesn't do too well on here as it sits, we will be doing the head gasket job sometime in the middle of next week. We are thinking that someone will realize the beauty of the truck and what little work it needs and take it off of our hands. The truck will definitely we a show winner if that's what you want to use it for.
