Vehicle Detail

The truck is two wheel drive. It has an automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, A/C, heater, cassette, AM/FM radio, two small speakers mounted high, a destructible, dent-less Barden bumper with trailer hitch and light connector. It has trailer brakes, and for a camper, the iron drop down tie-downs, as well as an external plug in for camper lights. Behind the super new back tires( front too ) are perfect black heavy duty mud flaps. And plenty of real chrome! This truck, named Gilbert, is an exact replica of the one Johnny Depp drove in the movie “What's Eating Gilbert Grape”. I bought the truck 4 years ago at 156,000 original miles. It is now 161,000 miles. I bought it to pull my horse trailer. The truck has a strong 402 engine. It originally had a 390 but the owners before me rebuilt the engine. It started in Idaho hauling a camper around ( it's a Ranger camper special.) Through one of the brothers it ended up in Reno. In summer it has a tendency to overheat. This may be a thermostat problem or ? Nothing was disclosed to me from the buyer regarding the transmission, but a very trustworthy mechanic told me, when he drove it, that it shifted from low to high, missing the second gear. I was able to pull my horse trailer locally on mostly level ground, but never could haul over the Sierra to California shows. So I am disclosing that it would need a rebuilt transmission with cooler, if you were going to haul. This is why I am selling it, to get a newer truck. There was the stock gas tank behind the seats. The past owner took it out, to get more storage room. This left the rear, under the truck bed tank, which does not register full on the dash when in fact it is full. You can get a tank to put back in behind the seat, and use both, as there is 2 switches in the cab to change tanks, and drive on! As for gas mileage " forgetaboutit" - it's very low by today's standards, but then too one doesn't buy this great truck for good gas mileage. This is one solid American-made truck!! And wasn't it fun in the '60's!! There is some rust, minor around the edges, but remarkable low, considering it lived in Idaho for a lot of it's life. Of course, the act of sliding a camper in and out, has left scrapes in the bed, so there are many inside the bed. You will also notice the dimple outward of the right front panel, matching up with a poked out front bumper. This is the major flaw in the body, indicating some sort of accident. I bought it in this condition, so I don't know what happened. The hood is in excellent shape, rare for a truck of this age. Along the normal bump of the hood on each side is showing signs of light rust. I tried to photograph it but it didn't show. The paint on the truck is thin. A new coat would put this truck in the running for a cruise!I have tried to tell and show all about Gilbert. He has been a lot of fun to drive over these years I have had him. He has hauled slash to the dump, hay and shavings for my horses, with a cruise here and there. I will miss him, but I need a newer truck, SUV to do all I need in one vehicle. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I require $ 500 at close of auction with the balance due in 7 days. I am located just south of Reno, Nevada, so if you wish to drive this truck, contact me. My reserve isn't that high. Happy bidding! Meanwhile it drives well around town, although sometimes, in summer, it overheats. A typical Ford trait. On Jul-21-10 at 19:30:03 PDT, seller added the following information: I have forgotten to add. The stitching on the cream colored driver's side sun visor has come undone. I have a call into a local upholstery man to get it fixed. I will have this done as soon as I can. Otherwise the visors are good.
