Vehicle Detail
1966 Porsche 911 Targa This is a project I purchased long ago in 1993, and worked on through 1996. It has been garaged since 1996 and is now being offered for sale. There are tons of un-used parts (new in 1993-96) with the car that have literally never been used. The engine is rebuilt and can be started, but needs to be tuned. All parts, hardware, books and receipts are included. Everything Porsche related goes with the car. Note: any parts referred to as "new" are un-used parts bought in the 1990's. No parts were purchased recently with the exception of the fuel pump which was purchased in 2010. History: I bought this car in November of 1993 from a barn in LaGrange, GA. The restoration started off well. I removed the motor and transmission (they come down togeher). I rebuilt the engine and carbs. I removed as much of the nasty red paint as I could, and began to prepare the body. Then I lost interest and abandoned it in my mom's garage for the next 12 years. Eventually I bought a house with a garage and moved it there. Now, I've moved to Iceland with my wife and kids and the Porsche is at my friends house in St. George in South Carolina (near Charleston). The little car has been with me a long, long time, but now it's time to let someone else take over the project and hopefully finish it. The engine is strong and the base chassis is solid. It could make a great restoration project, or an excellent parts car with a lot of great parts. ID Numbers and Papers: I believe the engine and transmission to be original to this chassis. I've found information that lists the engine and transmission numbers as belonging to a 1966 short wheelbase 911. Chassis: 303552 Engine: 903683 Transmission: 226424 Title: ~Titles did not exist in 1966 and are still not needed in GA. Please check with your state to see how they handle cars from 1966 without titles. I will provide a Bill Of Sale with the car signed by the Buyer and by me. Registration: I bought this car from a barn in LaGrange, GA in 1993. It had not been registered since 1986. Reciepts: I have a stack of receipts for everything I bought back in the early 90's. Engine: 2.0 L horizontally opposed 6 cylinder (also called a boxer six or an H6 engine). "S" Engine rebuild kit from Envine Builders Supply Co. in Sparks, NV. The rebuild included new cylinders, pistons and rings, chains, tensioners, bearings, bolts. The "S" engine has 160HP which is 30 more than original by having a higher compression ratio of 10.5:1. Heads were professionally done at Sunbelt Performance Engines in Sugar Hill, GA. Crankshaft was professionally checked with micrometer at Black Forest Porsche in Doraville, GA. 911S Clutch Package from Performance Products in Van Nuys, CA. Set of rings from Automotion in Sunnyvale, CA. Two brand new stainless steel exhaust heat exchangers bought from Automotion in Sunnyvale, CA. Of course they are still like brand new. Engine and Weber 40IDA-3C carbs were completely disassembled, meticulously cleaned, and reassembled with new parts, bolts, and screws in 1995. After that, car has been sitting. An aftermarket muffler was installed. Engine starts and runs but needs new fuel pump installed, carb tuning and ignition timing. New fuel pump is included. Body / Chassis: The good news is there is very little rust. As you can see in the pictures, the floorpans have orange surface rust, but are solid. The bad news is this car used to be a coupe and was modified into a Targa. It was a very good job and was not noticeable when I bought the car. The A-pillar was cut half way up and a Targa frame welded in. The roof was removed and a Targa roll bar was welded in. It all fits together perfectly as if it were done by the factory. The one unfinished part is the very back pillar which has been cut and folded over; a windshield lip could be welded in. I started to build them, but never finished. They are included. There is use of body filler. The front of the hood was filled to repair accident damage. The four fenders have been flared using body filler. The door jambs have been repaired with body filler. The front and rear windshields are in great shape. The rear window is a glass wraparound with defrost (very rare and expensive). The door roll-up windows are also in good shape but the chrome could use some work. The wheels are not original to the car, but are OEM Fuchs wheels from a newer model. They are in great shape, no gouges, but could use new paint. The folding targa top is in great shape. It is a very rare item, especially in this excellent condition. Can be removed, folded and stored in the trunk, unfolded, and reinstalled without problems. The Targa bar cover in brushed stainless steel and is in great shape. This is also a rare and valuable item. Body rubber will need to be replaced. I bought a kit and it is included. The tires are shot. They hold air for a while and are fine for moving the car in the driveway and onto a car carrier, but they cannot go on roads. Interior: There were no carpets when I bought it. I bought an aftermarket carpet kit which is also included. The front seats are not original, they look like they are from an 1980's Porsche. They are in good shape, no rips or tears. The door panels, dashboard, rear jump seats and inside Targa bar covers seem to be original. They are in decent shape to use again if needed. The dashboard has the traditional 5 gauge layout with the ignition key at the left of the steering wheel. The steering wheel is not the original, but looks like it's from a later Porsche. Mechanical / Electrical: The stick shift needs adjustment and new bushings to make it less floppy. The brakes, clutch, and transmission work and can be tested in the driveway. The shocks and springs are old but seem to function at least for driveway testing. The electrical system seems to work on the dashboard and the engine compartment. It seems in good working shape. Please download the zip file, extract it, and then watch the video. Download video Location: The car is located in St.George, SC 29477. It is at my friends house and stored out of the rain. I recently moved to Iceland, so he will be completing the transaction. He and I are both available to answer questions or even for a phone call. Please send message through eBay. Auction info: A $500 deposit through PayPal is required at auction end. The remainder of the balance is due within 5 days. Buyer is responsible for shipping or transport. The vehicle must be picked up at it's current location. There is a long driveway and plenty of room for any car carrier. This 911 can NOT be driven on the streets in its present condition. It can NOT be towed on a two wheel tow dolly. The buyer will need a car transporter that can get all four wheels off the ground. The car runs so it can be driven in the driveway and onto the car carrier. Buyers with ZERO feedback please contact me before bidding. Car is also for sale locally and on other enthusiast websites, so I reserve the right to end the auction early. If you have any questions or picture request please ask and I'll do my best to accomodate them. Thanks for looking! And good luck bidding! On Jul-19-10 at 07:08:57 PDT, seller added the following information:Transport: Some parts boxes fit into the car, but the buyer will need to load a few bins and the *delicate* windshields into a vehicle or trailer. The windshields are both bubble wrapped, but extreme care must be taken so they do not crack. They should not be laid down flat. The standing position as seen in the pictures is safest.
