Vehicle Detail
This bus is a project. No, you cant drive it home. You will need to come and pick it up with a trailer or other means of towing. This bus was restored about 8 years ago, but is now showing signs of rust repair. The interior is not installed and may not all be there. It had new screens installed in the pop top camper but i have no idea if they are still in good condition or not. It still seems to have a brake pedal as the brakes were new 3 years ago when it was last driven. As far as the motor and trans goes... the automatic tranny was rebuilt 9800 miles ago and worked very good while in service. the motor is the interesting part. The bus was converted to a 1.8 watercooled GTI motor. It was done using a Kennedy adapter plate. The radiator was mounted in the left side of the engine compartment and draws from the cold air vents on the side of the bus. The motor in the bus does not run anymore as we blew a head gasket after driving it for 2 years and logging almost 10,000 miles. The motor was carburated but the carb and manifold are not with the vehicle anymore. The plan was to convert over to a fuel injected motor or a diesel, but i have way to many projects and this one does not make the list. If you were going to purchase this vehicle, I would expect that you will have to replace the motor. As far as driving. The bus drove like a dream. It had a lot of power and was quite fast. The bus did not have overheating issues unless you were driving over 75 mph for a long period of time. Understand, this is a project. Not the vehicle you are going to just hook up a few wires and go cruising. Email if you have any questions.
