Audio Player Copyright 2009 Ver2.04 You are bidding on a beautiful 1978 Deluxe Microbus – an example of a baywindow model year consistently ranked among the most popular of all build years by VW Microbus enthusiasts. It is a good looking, extremely original two-owner vintage 7-passenger walkthrough Microbus that performs exceedingly well. It is wearing new Panama Brown/Dakota Beige paint and its all-original interior is in great condition, with little sign of wear. All of the original equipment in this great vintage Microbus is in good working order, including several rare options that will add to your fun for years to come. We have original service records from its two owners, and it comes with its original VW Owner’s manual, and Eperspacher Booster Heater manual. It has several highly desirable options – the rare Eberspacher BN-6 Auxiliary Booster Heater (also known as ‘Belly Heater’), sliding side windows, and a feature that allows the rear seat back to fold down to extend the cargo area, or to form a small rest or sleeping area. And, at my own expense, I will deliver this great Microbus to the winning bidder anywhere in the Continental United States via licensed, bonded and insured auto carrier. Major Advantages: Superior exterior condition and appearance – new paint in its original factory colors – bumpers and all! Excellent mechanical condition – original 2 liter fuel injected drivetrain meticulously cared-for. Interior is all-original, in excellent condition and super clean. Low miles – documented – with service records. The extraordinary benefit of free delivery to you. Other special items: Eperspacher BN-6 Auxiliary Booster Heater – so good you won’t believe it! Original factory floor mats. Original Hella front turn signal lenses. Original Hella side marker lenses. Original Hella rear turn signal lenses. Original seat stand mats. Original kick panels in cab, and for middle and rear seats. Original headrests – front. Original seat covers – all seats! Original door and interior panels. Original seat belts – seven total. Original rear deck covering. Original spare tire cover and retaining strap. Original rear seat that folds down to create an extended cargo or small sleep area. Original headliner. Original front emblem. Original drivetrain with all original heater hoses. New privacy curtains. New chrome radio antenna. New fresh air grill screen. New outside rear view mirrors. New chrome carriage bolts for bumpers. New Hancook 185/75 R14 Whitewall radial tires on all four corners. Mechanically, you’ll be handling the most advanced drivetrain VW ever manufactured for the vintage Baywindow bus. In 1978, VW optimized the 2.0 liter electronically controlled fuel injected powerplant by introducing self-adjusting hydraulic valves, producing 67hp at 4200rpm. It was the combination of this dynamic drivetrain plus the power of disc brakes that has caused VW enthusiasts to consistently rank the 1978 model high in popularity. It is the peppiest engine VW ever put in a bus, and this one needs absolutely nothing at all – it is very tight and solid, and waiting to take you wherever you’d like to go. It is mated to its original 4 speed manual transmission which shifts smoothly and flawlessly. Top speed is 80-85 MPH. You can cruise comfortably all day at freeway speeds. The steering and alignment are excellent. Brakes are in good order. It rides great and goes down the road good and straight. Tire tread is 100% - the Micrbus rides on new P185x75R14 Hancook whitewall radials. The spare tire is safely secured in the spare tire well with its original restraint belt. Seat belts for seven – two up front, two for middle seat, and three for the rear seat. Electrical system is in excellent working order. All exterior lighting including headlamps, turn signals, side marker, emergency, backup and tag lights function properly. Horn, wipers, dash gauges, indicators and dash lights are all operational, as are both dome lights. Radio is inoperative. Heater and ventilation levers work well, and all vent window locks are in good order. The incredible Eperspacher BN-6 Auxiliary Booster Heater is discussed below in detail. The camper’s original VW ignition key operates all doors and locks. Exterior-wise, this Westfalia is exceptionally attractive because it is wearing new paint in its original colors of Panama Brown and Dakota Beige. I took the paint down to bare metal and filled the few dings, then applied epoxy primer, two stage Dupont Chroma-Base and clear coat. It looks better today than it did when it arrived in the new world. The bumpers were professionally reconditioned, primed and painted the top color – Dakota Beige. New front windshield and new rubber seals for windshield and rear window. The original seals for front doors, sliding door, side windows (including original deluxe window trim), rear hatch and engine door remain intact and in good condition. Original paint in door jambs and inside engine door. Interior-wise, the original factory floor mats in the front cab, the passenger compartment and in the walk-thru area, as well the original seat stand mats are in excellent condition. Dash is pristine, and there are no cracks in its original steering wheel. Original kick panels in cab, for middle seat and for rear seat. No chips or cracks in original Securit vent and side window glass. New front windshield. Original seat upholstery and original door panels are in very good condition. There are about 6 inches of piping around the edge of the front passenger seat that have come loose, but are easily manageable. Sliding door, cargo hatch and engine door are in good order. About the Epersbacher BN-6 Auxiliary Booster Heater…if you are familiar with vintage VW buses, then you are probably aware of the limitations of their stock heating systems. With the BN-6 heater booster, VW provided a heater that will have you driving around in your underwear - even in the coldest weather conditions. In the auxiliary system, the engine heat exchangers are combined with a gasoline-operated heater booster, which draws its fuel from the gas tank. Fresh air is pre-heated in the engine heat exchangers and then passed to the heater booster, which is thermostatically controlled, increasing air to the desired level. When the engine is not running, the heater booster alone heats the bus. A lighted green dash knob serves as the temperature switch and has a timer. You can even preheat the interior for ten minutes before starting the engine. The entire system is mounted along the underside of the camper, giving rise to the nickname, “Belly Heater”. I was amazed at the output of this rare option. This is the heater that the Eskimos at the North Pole would fight to have in their VW campers. Cold weather need not ever spoil your fun in this great Microbus. Original owner’s manual and Eperspacher heater manual are included. The original jack and tools are located under the passenger seat.
