Vehicle Detail
1978 VW SUPERBEETLE CONVERTIBLE CHAMPAIGN EDITION II This is a one-year-only SUPERBEETLE CONVERTIBLE that each VW Dealership in the U.S. was given (2) of this color with the paint code (LE 3 Y). I got this bug in May 2010 and unfortunately I now cannot drive it. I have a serious back injury and cannot get in and out of the car, my loss your gain. The previous owner purchased the bug from an owner who had it since 1986. It was totally gone through in 1993 and had $5,400 spent on it at that time by previous owner. I have the receipts from all the work done at that time. Previous owner said it was not driven much after that. When I purchased it, it had 38,857 miles and the previous owner said it was original mileage. Cannot say for certain, but it sure looks like it. Since I bought it I have done a few things to it such as New Top, Battery, Side Mirrors, Fuel Pump, Tires, Stereo and Complete Tune Up. This a really nice bug with a good running 1600 d/p fuel injected engine that has color matched tin. Trans is good and it has a Gene Berg short shift kit on it that shifts tight and feels like a sports car. The interior is in great shape with a perfect dash, everything works and only a little rubbing in the driver seat from getting in and out. All electrical works, even the Cigarette lighter. Tires have about four thousand miles on them and the Porsche Alloys are color matched as well. Brakes are good. The paint is in really good shape but does have little dings, scratches and small chips on it. Has a little surface rust at bottom of driver’s door, bottom of engine lid, and small spot under battery tray and rear apron. For this car being done in '93' it is in very good overall shape. I have driven this bug to the beach, car shows and have had a great time with it. I don’t really want to get rid of it; however, if I cannot drive it, it is not so fun. I have described it as best I can, if you have any questions please ask before you bid. (Please do not flake on me. I will give you a Negative feedback.) It does not come with any warranty what so ever and the buyer is responsible for all shipping. I will help in any way I can on my end for getting the car on your shipper or if local will meet you within a reasonable distance. ....Good luck and happy bidding.....Note: the date on the pictures is wrong. Pictures were taken in Sept of '09' and it still looks the same since he did not drive it in the winter and is currently garaged. This is appreciated by men and women alike. It is a real head turner.
