Vehicle Detail

This is a 1980 Concord Blue Scout Traveler with Tartan Blue Vinyl/Nylon interior and the White standard top. I have a clear Oregon title in my name. I do not know the exact mileage, the mileage listed is not exact or necessarily correct. It is also for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early if I come to a price with someone locally. I bought the Scout with the intention of restoring it but I need to thin the herd to pay bills, so this one goes. The body is completely untouched and almost rust (rot) free condition. It has normal surface rust from rock chips and road grit and it also has slightly heavier rust where the door seal lip meets up with the top of the outer rockers and on the bottom of the panels between the doors and rear wheelwells. (pics) Floors look pretty solid, although I havent pulled the vinyl all the way up to look underneath. No rust holes that I can see. Body mounts are solid. Windshield frame is solid, as is everything else not mentioned. (see pictures) The top is fiberglass and in good condition. The struts still hold the rear liftgate up very well and the latch works fine, which is rare on these Travelers. Usually the struts are worn out and the gate won't latch. It is hard to find a Scout that has never been repainted and to know that what is "under" the paint is only what the factory put under there makes this one worth looking at. This Scout was in service from 1980- 1992. The owner kept registration up until 2000. It had been sitting in his barn in Scapoose, OR since 1992 until I bought it in Feb 2010. The 1992 registration sticker is on the vintage yellow plates. The original motor is in it, but has a bad piston and cylinder. (liner) It comes with another complete Nissan SD33t, the stock and correct motor for the 1980 Scout. The PO said it came out of a good running 1980 Scout that he bought from the kids down the street back in about 1995. He claims he pulled the motor and took the head and oil pan off to examine it. He said he pulled two main bearing caps and the mains looked great. He pulled the head to look at the cylinders and tops of pistons and they do look great. He then looked around for a gasket set and couldn't easily find one and the months turned into years... Eighteen years...(!) I have a semi- complete gasket set that I purchased from SuperScoutSpecialists. I know it is missing the intake/exhaust gasket, which is easily available through SSS for about $40.00 plus shipping. Other than that it appears rather complete.(pics, there are lots of gaskets in set) I also purchased from SSS new "Scout" decals for the rear panels, "IH" decals for the front panels and the "Traveler" decal for the back. They are specific and correct for the 1980 model year, identical to the ones you see on the Scout. It has a few dents, one in the pass side rear corner and one in the pass door. The lower grille valance also has a dent. There is a dent in the driver side rear corner from the rear bumper. There might be a few dings other than that but otherwise it is a straight Scout. The panels are quite straight. The interior is in great condition. The original black dashpad is in great shape, no cracks or imperfections. The seats look new, front and rear are perfect, not ripped or stained, making me think it hasn't seen very many miles. Dash is complete, bezel is uncut, original AM/FM radio with original knobs is still in it. The much coveted factory 1980 steering wheel is there and complete. It also comes with a Factory shop manual on the Nissan sd33t motor, which is very in-depth on the teardown, cleaning and rebuild of the motor. (Like gold) The original maintenance schedule manual, original accessories manual and the original owners manual are also included in the sale. A very interesting article called "IHC frequently Asked Questions" on the diesel Scouts is also included. It tells all of the production numbers, HP numbers, etc. There are also some maintenance records in an envelope, mostly from Les Schwab tires. They show new brakes, including calipers in 1989, 3 years before it was parked and some other minor maintenance stuff. There is a cast u-shaped aluminum(?) part in the steering column that breaks on these if the wheel is locked and the key is forced forward. This one is broken and the easiest way to fix it is to swap with a different steering column. I don't have a spare on hand or I would throw it in. They come up on eBay quite often. I bought a tilt one off CL for another 1980 for $75.00 plus shipping. You could also just bypass the keyswitch and put a push button start on the dash. It has the complete set of 5 original polycast wheels that only came on 1980 models, along with the spare tire cover and original mounting hardware for the spare. (other spare is on right rear at present, and 5th polycast wheel is right behind rear seat in the pic) It also has the the year- specific dana 300 transfer case and a full synchro T-19 trans. And of course Dana 44's front and rear. I read somewhere that 1980 was the only year that the front Dana 44 was corrected for caster or camber for better tire wear. I will be there to help load for shipping, or you can come pick it up with your trailer. Keep in mind when considering trailering that these are heavy and there are two motors. Or, If you are within several hundred miles, I can trailer it to you for 50 cents a mile round trip. Remember, there were only 6,497 turbo diesel Scouts produced in 1980. They are becoming more and more rare and hard to find and you are getting two of everything in the motor dept. 2 turbo, 2 injector pumps, blocks, heads, alternators, starters, etc. All of these parts are pricey and hard to find. The reserve on this Scout is, in my opinion considerably less than the price that the Scout is worth in parts, but, also in my opinion, it would be a high crime to part- out this entirely original Scout. Any questions, please feel free to call Matt at 541-297-2699, or use the eBay message service. If you are looking for a relatively solid 1980 Scout Turbo Diesel project, you should consider this one. Thanks for looking.
