Vehicle Detail
If this old truck could talk, it could sure tell some stories! I've owned it for about 22 years. My family and I enjoyed it tremendously.. Just a great, good karma kind of truck. It never brought me any grief, only joy and good times! I hung onto it for sentimental reasons for a long time, but I have gotten to where I just have too many cars, now. I need some room. Anyway.. Maybe someone can make good use of her, or use some of her parts, so another good old truck can live, again. Old trucks never die.. They just live on in our hearts.. This is a California truck and has always been, to the best of my knowledge. She's a "Camper Special" F-250, which is a 3/4 truck with a one ton suspension. Has the floating axle, and could go dually, I am told (but I never looked into that and wouldn't want to say for sure). I replaced the tie rods, king pins, drag link and idler arm and had to order the one ton parts, special. This truck has a super heavy suspension and would be good for a farm truck, salvage, landscaping or dirt / gravel / concrete hauling. Dual exhaust, by the way... Mufflers in good shape, no known exhaust leaks. Should be smog-exempt. Body is too far dinged up to be a good restoral candidate, I think. Truck bed is sound, but deeply dented at the front, next to the cab. I have the tailgate and you can have it, if it goes for at least $350, but it's a bit dented, too. Some idiot hooked heavy chains to the front and rear bumper for towing, so they're of dubious value, other than utility. Another jackass backed into the grill and broke / dented it, pretty bad. My tranny guy looked at the automatic transmission and said it was in good shape. I paid him to rebuild it, and he did a fine job. I believe there's a "trailer pack" on the transmission, so it should be good. The radiator was good, too.. recored by a professional and no leaks. It did have a 390 engine, but that was changed out some time back to a 360 (?), which was allegedly a rebuild, by my husband's ex-boss. Engine runs OK, but I would not guarantee the condition other than that. It's doesn't seem to be a real tight engine. But it was a daily driver for a long time and was pretty reliable. Windshield is good.. no cracks or chips. Wiper arms good and worked well, last time she was driven over the roads. I always took good care of the brake system and bought new calipers, rotors and brake pads for it. I also replaced the brake booster once. It's been stored for a few years, now, so I cannot remember all the details (dates of repair, etc), and cannot say if any parts are good, anymore. Vehicle is sold, "as is, where is". Truck has a few issues which I think would be safety related, so I want to put a salvage title on it, and the buyer must bring it up to snuff, and get it past inspections, if they want to put it on the road, again. Here are my issues of concern.. It needs a new U-bolt on the right rear axle where it holds to the leaf springs and frame. The truck "crabs" a bit (doesn't run straight). You can't tell it much when driving, but it's visible to anyone following the truck. Once I hit a high curb with that big right rear wheel, and the drive shaft fell out.. No big deal for me, at the time.. just put it back in.. but the rear axle needs to be realigned and tightened up. Center support bearing was replaced once while I owned it, so no known issues, there. It will start in gear, and I believe that is a idiosyncrousity with this year / model truck. Just be aware. There is some rust around the rain gutter on the cab roof, and it was lifting up at freeway speeds, so it's held down with bolts. One headlight is out of adjustment and the bezel is missing. I didn't show pictures of the engine compartment, because it's locked up (got tired of having the battery stolen). I can get some pictures posted if there is interest. Engine compartment is clean. Comes with the original carb for the 390 engine, and OEM air cleaner. I bought a new battery for it, right before I stopped driving it. It may be able to be saved. Some people know some tricks / how to do that. Got the big, meaty "mud" tires on the back, still a lot of wear left on them, but they are older than six years old, which is now considered the industry standard for safety. So, you should figure on getting them replaced, if you intend to use this truck. Same goes for the fronts. They have a legal amount of tread on them, but they have past six years of age, I'm sure! Please note, that I am the current owner / title holder on this truck, and it has been registered "non-op" for several years, but I want to put it into salvage title before transfer to the new owner, so they have the responsibility to have it inspected and certified as road-worthy and safe. It could also be a good parts truck. If you want to put this truck back on the road, you must get it reinspected and licensed in your own state. For use on private property, no license is needed, and it would probably make a great truck for hauling, around a farm or ranch. Ignition switch is missing, and it needs a new turn signal flasher. Shift column hub was replaced and is good, but the clear plastic indicator ring is gone. Seat is in acceptable condition.. faded and a bit of beading exposed, but would be fine with a seat cover. I paid some time ago to have it re-upholstered. That's about all to tell, for now. If you want any other information, I'll try to answer any questions. Thanks for your interest! ps.. That's the transmission support bracket, spare tire and spare (old) rotor in the back of the truck, below. Oh, yes.. This truck is sold "as is", and "where is". Buyer is responsible for all transportation and shipping costs. It cannot be driven (no insurance or valid registration). I had it listed as a "non-operational", so there should be no parking tickets, or anything like that. By the way, at one point I had bought a few things to improve this vehicle (back when I was thinking I would keep it), but never put on her. Those will be going up for sale. One is a nice grille. The other major thing is the under dash A/C / heater unit. I also have some armrests. I'll be listing those soon. I also have some really nice air cushions for the bed, to make cargo ride nicer. Those are new in the box and never used. Thanks for looking!
