Audio Player Copyright 2009 Ver2.04 You are bidding on a low mile, two owner 1949 Chrysler Windsor Four-Door Sedan – an unrestored, unrefurbished 100% original, 100% correct, mechanically sound machine that is a nice survivor from near the beginning of Chrysler’s post-war full-size Windsor line. This vintage Chrysler, showing just 58,200 miles which are believed to be original, reposed in my Dad’s warehouse for 23 years until a few weeks ago when I decided to get it out, clean it, and fire it up. I cranks right up and runs like new. It still has its factory features, inside and out – its 251ci L-head straight six, its factory radio and clock, and acres and acres of chrome and stainless trim. It is a special machine – an impressive, appreciating collectible that would be of interest to any Chrysler group enthusiast – fully functional with many years of appreciation ahead of it. Original, complete, unrestored cars are in big demand today because of their genuineness. This one is an absolute treasure, and I believe it will surely please the lucky winner of this auction. Major advantages: · Striking originality – Ocean Blue in color – oxidized paint that will still shine up. · Original dash and interior, broadcloth upholstery and huge rear passenger compartment. · Original, reliable drivetrain, 251cc/114hp six, with Fluid Drive transmission. · The absolute coolness of the completeness and correct bumper and trim components. Other special items: . Correct mirror hubcaps. Hubcaps have the painted Chrysler script. Original driver’s side rear view mirror. Original dash – padding has deteriorated but gauge cluster still good looking. Original clock (inoperative). Original radio. Original chrome ashtrays in front and rear compartments. Original front and rear seat upholstery – airfoam cushions. Original chrome grab handles in rear compartment. Original folding armrest in rear seat. Original headliner. Original turn signal lenses. Original sunvisors. Original interior panels. Original door pulls and window cranks. Historically, this vintage Chrysler Windsor was owned by a Tennessee individual who drove it and cared for it until 1987, when my Dad bought it for his collection of 1940’s Mopar classics. Dad actually drove it himself from Chattanooga to our warehouse in Meridian, Mississippi, where it has been safely at rest for the past 23 years. It is now ready to come to life and once again take a new custodian forward to enjoy the vintage motoring luxuries of Chrysler’s post-war full-size Windsor line. Mechanically, the drivetrain and all other mechanical and electrical systems have been inspected, adjusted and are in good working order. You can hop right in, turn the key and go down the road confidently. It has its original 251cid L-head (flat head) straight six cylinder engine – 114 horses eagerly await you, and it still has its stock exhaust system. It cranks right up and sounds smooth as silk. The gearbox is Chrysler's fabled Fluid Drive - a column mouned two position semi-automatic transmission. It shifts exactly as it is supposed to. The brake system has been completely overhauled, with a new master cylinder, new wheel cylinders, lines flushed and all components including emergency brake have been adjusted. Here is a summary of recent work performed: Fresh oil New plugs New points. Timing adjusted. Brake system inspected and adjusted and repaired. New 6 volt battery. Electrical system is the original 6 volt system, reverse polarity. That means you put the positive wire to the negative pole on the battery and vice-versa. All interior and exterior lights are in working order, including interior dome light. All dash gauges including gas gauge work properly. Exterior-wise, this vintage Chrysler Windsor still has its original factory applied Ocean Blue paintwork on the interior door jambs but has had one re-spray on its exterior. No evidence of any body work or collision damage. The exterior paint is oxidized, but we buffed and waxed a small section on the trunk area and I was amazed at the degree of brilliance that lurks beneath the surface (see photo on slide show). There is one ding in the upper passenger’s side front door and there is a ding in each of the rear quarter panel stainless trim pieces. The enormous amount of chrome – the bumpers, the ornaments, the grille, the window trim, the rocker trim, the door and trunk handles – it is all present, 100% original and complete, but most pieces are pitted from age. Interior-wise, you will find the original broadcloth upholstery, including the original airfoam seat cushions and original sunvisors. There are some tears in the front seat, but the rear seat, with its folding armrest is still very colorful and in very good shape. The original grab bars and ashtray adorn the rear of the front seat. The interior door panels and arm rests are original. The headliner the original mohair cloth and is in good condition for its age. Working windshield wipers and horn. All glass appears to be original. All vent wings open, close and lock properly. All doors including hood and trunk doors open, close and lock properly.
