Vehicle Detail

"Old Goldie" was bought brand new in 1970 by my father when we lived in Buffalo, Minnesota. His best recollection is that it came from Larson Cycle in Cambridge, Mn. The K0, or first model cb750 was THE BIKE that everyone wanted back then. It was a game changer in the world of motorcycle engineering and is among the most collectible Honda bike ever made. But then you probably know all that if you found this. I took over ownership from Dad in 1985. Quite nearly a one-owner bike it has been treated like a queen these past 40 years. Garaged and covered most of its life. It is mostly in all original condition. The obvious non-original items are the Jardine mufflers and the later model airbox. The original looking seat was a re-upholstery job over the partially improved original foam. The right passenger peg is a replacement. Other than that the bike is virtually the same as rolled off the showroom; no replacement body parts, levers, or engine components. Manufacture date is 03-1970. Original mufflers can still be purchased and original style airboxes are available as reproductions, so if you are into "completely original" then museum quality restoration is only a few bolt on parts away. The fork boots, seals and fluid were recently replaced. The swing arm is freshly rebuilt with a new collar and bronze bushings. The tires (Bridgestone spitfire st11) and tubes are brand new. The steering head got upgraded Timkin bearings at 35000mi. The master and slave cylinders are newly rebuilt and front and rear brakes are brand new. Deluxe o-ring chain at 38,000 mi. The 4 into 1 throttle cable was replaced in the 90's. Carbs were given a tank cleaning and new float needle-valves and seats three years ago. Compression is good: dry, cold, comp test = 140,130,140,140. Engine sounds great; no knocks or unusual noise. Will try to have a youtube video up this weekend. Search for K0 and Old Goldie and CB750 on youtube.com. As for documents, I still have the recall notice from Honda dated 1971 that offered softer wheel dampers, softer clutch springs and a 17 tooth sprocket be added to avoid chain breakage incidences. The recall work was never performed on this bike. Nor did it ever break a chain. At one time I had the original purchase receipt from 1970 but have not yet been able to locate it. Originally titled in Buffalo, Minnesota, I have had it titled in Portland, Oregon and currently in Vancouver, Wa. I won't try to upsell the condition. She is every bit as striking, clean, and beautiful as the pictures show but I want to be clear that she has had a 42,825 mile interesting life and has a few marks to show for it. Here's some of the good, bad and ugly. She toured with a handlebar fairing (not included) most of her life which kept the head components out of the sun and in excellent shape. Always wore a coat of wax but that wasn't enough to resist the blue jean and saddlebag wear. My pictures should illustrate the small degree of wear and minor insults the paint has received. The overall appearance is not really affected; only a close inspection brings these to light. In my opinion, the existing paint has a unique and lovely patina that would be a shame to paint over. Never crashed or laid down, she has however been the victim of sidestand sinking. The fairing and crash bars catch most of the force of these events but the fairing flexed into and impacted the HONDA-emblem (as shown). The front fender has a gentle dip dent near the front (pictured). The tank has a shallow scratch on top with a couple tiny chips (pictured). Blue jean wear on top edges of side covers and at rear of tank stripes should be visible in the pictures. You have to look close to find these faults and the bike often draws impressed lookers and positive comments when out and about. Ask any questions and I'll be straight with you. Sold as is. Bike is running very well. A bit of a cold starter (original,1969 style ignition could be upgraded), she takes a short while to warm up and purr but has even, snappy response at all throttles and nimble, confident turns are better than ever with the new tires and tight swingarm. Shop manual, crash bars, tool kit and recall letters included. Remember, though, gas was .36 a gallon in 1970.
