Vehicle Detail
The restoration of this 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit Pickup was the Winter project for a retired head mechanic at a VW dealership. The workmanship and thoroughness is impressive. Before i go into specific details i should say that the original engine was replaced with a reconditioned 1.6 Liter turbocharged diesel of a later vintage. I was told the conversion was done at about 300,000 Kilometers which would mean there are about 138,000 Kilometers on the new engine. It runs, starts and performs well using about a pint of oil between changes. I was surprised how much pep this little pickup has. I have driven it throughout the Province about 3,000 kilometers. It handles the roads better than my newer VW Golf. Below is a list of the improvements and replacements performed: (1) 1 new shock absorber. (2) New left strut and upper bearing. (3) New windshield. (4) New headgasket. (5) New timing belt. (6) New camshaft and crankshaft. (7) New Oil seals (8) New water pump belt. (9) 4 new glow plugs. (10) New fuel hoses. (11) New exterior and interior paint. (12) New air filter (13) New fuel filter (14) New crank pulley (15) New rear wheel bearing (16) New inner and outer drivers (17) 1 new wheel cylinder (18) New radiator. As you can see, this is almost a completely new VW. The interior is exceptionally nice with no tears or worn upholstery. The radio casette player-i belive-was original equipment and works. The clock does not work. It has a sunroof. The vehicle has been safety inspected by the Province of Nova Scotia and is valid till May 2011. Any questions will be readily entertained. Thank you for your bid and interest,...Pieter
