Audio Player Copyright 2009 Ver2.04 You are bidding on a beautiful Neptune Blue 1971 Double Cab dropgate pickup truck – a newly refreshed cab walkthrough restoration that is a unique and exciting example of a late vintage VW truck. The 1971 build-year is highly desirable to vintage VW enthusiasts because it is the only model year where VW equipped its “new bus” Type 2’s with the higher performing dual port Type I drive train (VW changed to the Type IV engine for ’72 through ’79 Type 2’s), and it was the first model year to have power assisted front disc brakes. The 1971 build-year is arguably the most sought-after of all of VW’s baywindow Type 2 Transporters. This cool 1971 double cab features a new high performance drivetrain, new interior, and new oak truck bed slats with original hoops and canvas. It is a quick, reliable driver, a showy, great-looking machine inside and out, and it is a good investment given the scarcity of complete late VW double cab trucks in excellent condition. The lucky winner of this auction will have the best of several worlds – authentic late vintage truck styling with new paint over the entire body, truck bed and dropgates, the flash of Fuchs-replica wheel rims with Porsche caps, the look of original factory VW hoops and canvas with new oak bed slats, an expensive walkthrough cab customization with fresh interior, and a powerful new zero-mile dual Weber drivetrain for maximum drivability and fun on the road. And, at my own expense, I will deliver this remarkable Double Cab to the winning bidder anywhere within the Continental United States via licensed, bonded and insured auto carrier. Major advantages: · Excellent exterior restoration – truck dropgates, body and bumpers are very nice. · Excellent interior restoration – rare walkthrough cab with cool color-keyed seats, interior panels and carpet kit. · New 1776cc engine with dual Weber carburetors and zero miles. · Factory original VW hoops and canvas with new oak slats in truck bed. · Cool Fuchs-replica wheels with Porsche caps. · The extraordinary advantage of free delivery to you. Other special items: · Front and reat bumpers were professionally reconditioned, repainted Cloud White. · New chrome bumper bolts. · New rubber throughout the truck – everywhere right down to the glove box rubber stops. · New window scrapers. · Cigarette lighter – your cell phone will love it! · Polished aluminum wheel cap extenders to accommodate the truck axle stubs. · KYB shocks, front and rear. · New Hancook whitewall tires, front and rear. · Original Hella rear brake light lenses. · NOS Hella front turn signal lenses. · A single key operates all door locks. · Painted dropgate hardware. · New exterior paint in original Neptune Blue. · New oak truck bed slats. · New 12 Volt battery. · New TMI interior panels · New headliner. · New door pulls. · New pedal pads. · New Porsche-style aluminum lug nuts. · New Porsche Wheel caps. · New side red and amber reflectors. · Damplifier sound-deadener material on all interior panels. · New AM/FM CD player with two free-standing speakers. Historically, this great double cab truck was purchased in California during the late 1990's by an enthusiast who brought it here, registered and drove it as a farm truck here in North Texas. I bought the truck two years ago, stripped it to bare metal, re-primed and re-painted it, updated it with a more powerful drivetrain and then refreshed the custom interior with new panels and headliner. Mechanically, you’ll find a new zero-mile 1776cc dual Weber drivetrain built by Kelly Huffman that will get you off the line in a flash and will handle modern freeway speeds without breaking a sweat. You’ll have no trouble coming to a safe stop with newly refurbished, fully adjusted front disc brakes. The ride and drive is straight and true – certainly way better than stock. The engine compartment was repainted, so it is clean and nicely detailed. Here is a quick bullet point list of the truck's super mechanical features: New 1776cc Type I engine. New factory VW case. New Sheet metal. Weber 40 IDF twin carburetors. Hex-bar carb linkage. Forged counterweighted crankshaft. New alternator. New starter. Engel 110 cam. Deep oil sump. Doghouse oil cooler. New fuel pump. New German heater boxes. Ceramic coated exhaust system and muffler. New P205/75R15 Hancook steel belted whitewall radials, front and rear. New adjustable tie-rod assembly New drag link. New swing lever kit. Exterior-wise, this unique double cab is extremely straight, benefiting from excellent paintwork (in original Neptune Blue) with wave-free body panels and no evidence anywhere of collision repair. The dropgates are nice and straight, fit perfectly and are a pleasure to see. Other external features include the following: Original front and rear bumpers were professionally refurbished, primed and repainted Cloud White. New splash pans. NOS Hella front turn signal lenses. Authentic Hella rear turn signal lenses. Beautiful smooth roof and driprail. New window and body rubber throughout. New dropgate rubber stops. New outside rearview mirrors. Factory original hoops, bows and canvas. New oak bed slats – removable – stained and sealed. About the factory original hoops and canvas: One of the major factors that led me to buy and restore this remarkable double cab was the incredibly preserved truck bed hoops and canvas that have survived the ages with the truck. The hoops are free of rust, the bows are intact and unbroken, and the canvas still has all of its ringlets, tie downs, leather grommets for front gate hardware, and its vinyl window is intact with no cracks. The side and rear flaps still roll and tie up nicely. The canvas has several rips, but they are minor and can be patched without difficulty. I have never seen an original factory set of double cab hoops, bows and canvas in better shape than this one. Interior-wise, the original restorers expertly re-created a deluxe bus walkthrough feature from crew compartment to front, with factory seat stands, bucket seats and seat backs, bulkhead braces and hardware. Only one familiar with factory seams can determine that the walkthrough was a custom creation. TMI gray interior panels were used in crew and cab sections and on the rear of the front seat partitions. Matching grey TMI seat covers were installed on the crew and front seats. There is a new white perforated headliner. Above the solid floors, you’ll find a black carpet kit that extends throughout – even under the crew bench and on crew seat pedestal, and on the front seat stands. Factory front cab rubber mat underneath carpet. All window glass, including Safaris, side and pop-out windows are fully operational and free of chips or cracks. Damplifier deadening material on all outer panels. All vent locks and new felt channels are in good order. All dropgates and doors, including engine door, open, close and lock properly. All door and window rubber seals are new. Two three-point seat belts in front cab compartment. Here is a bullet point list of outstanding interior features: New gray TMI interior panels. New headliner. Matching gray seat covers. Solid front cab armrests and vent channels. Black carpet kit throughout. All seats and mounting hardware are in good working order. New window rubber everywhere. New window scrapers. New door pulls. Kick panels are free of rips or tears. Electrical system is the more reliable 12-volt system with new alternator. All exterior and interior lighting including dash lights and indicators, dome lights, speedometer and gauges operate properly. All headlights and turn signal lights are in good order. New AM/FM/CD player with free-standing speakers. All fresh air ventilation controls are in good order.
