Vehicle Detail
Hello Ebayers. I have to thin the heard a little bit and reluntantly have decided the 48 is the one to go seeing as how the other 2 are 55 chevys that are going to make up a nostalgia race car and tow rig . What you are looking at is a 1948 chevrolet fleetmaster 2 door sport coupe. Odometer reads 86,000 which is believed to be the original mileage but i have no documentation , but looking at the car up close and its easy to tell it is original mileage. The car has a nice package of factory 48 options and accesories that are original to the car , some are common , some are rare and i know of 1 that i had never even heard of or seen. So far the options i have picked out are Grille Gaurd , fog lights with the factory underdash fog light switch, Fulton sunvisor , the elusive Accesory Banjo Steering Wheel that is valued in the neighborhood of $1000 dollars by itself , Turnsignals with the factory column mounted turn signal indicator and lever, Fender gaurds as seen on the front and rear bumpers, factory spotlight , and the one that i have never seen before is the Gas Tank Alarm . Yup its known as Chevrolet Fil-Gard. It is an aluminum tube that went into the fuel tank that had an anti theft baffle in it and a whistle , as the gas goes in it whistles back to you and as the tank gets full it whistles at a higher pitch and louder. It was to prevent gas spillage and fender stains And this car has it. Ive included a picture of this option , the picture is not the one i have , the one i have is an original that was installed in the car at the factory , the picture is just for refrence because they are so rare , noone really knows what the are , You can look in the gas tank on this car and see it in there and hear it whistle at you when you put gas in. The interior is the original interior and still shows nicely , there is one tear on the upper left side of the front seat and as for seat rips , that one is pretty much it , There are a few stains but it is in overall great shape for 62 years old , head liner is dirty and stained with 2 tears that were stitched up a long long time ago , kinda looks neat. The Bakolite dash looks good , Clock is the 30hour model and still winds and keeps great time , The vacume wipers work flawlessly , the heater and defroster both work excellent and will almost run you out of the car , Heater works very nice and blows hard. Gas gauge i think has a loose wire , it works most of the time but it seems if you hit a bump sometimes she will quit and then start working again. Has the dome light switch behind the pass side seat on the b pillar and it still works as well with all the other lights. Both door windows roll up and down like a new car , quarter window slides work flawlessly as well. As you can see in the pictures , the passenger side front fender has a little rust towards the rear of the fender , this is as far as i can tell the only rust on the car , ive been in it , over it and under it and that fender spot is it . Car was repainted with what i think is fridgedair white , possibly maytag in 1993 . It is an amatuer paint job but all in all it still looks ok , starting to flake off on the front and rear filler panels. Car was originaly a pea green. Door jambs were brush painted so as you can expect they look AMAZING " thats being sarcastic ha ha ha" The floors in this car are ROCK solid , along with all the floor braces , there are NO rust holes in the floors or any of the braces , just surface rust , trunk floor and pans are the same way , rockers are in perfect shape and that can be attributed to the clean drain holes so nothing ever built up and held moisture in them. Over all the body is in great shape . There are a few spots under the white paint that looks like bondo , but its not , you can feel and look at the underside of the fenders and feel no dents and absolutley no bondo or rust holes , im guessing they may have been door dings here and there and some one may have skim coated the small dings , because there are deffinatley no dents or rust holes on the car with the exception of the pass fender , The paint like i said is starting to chip off on places and one of them is above the driver side rain gutter and being white paint you can see some rust stain coming out through the chips so i would honestly sand it down and throw a nice paint job on it , the car deserves it but thats up to you. The Grille has 3 dings which you can see in the pictures. The drive train is complete and all works great. The original 216 with OPTIONAL oil filter runs smoother than a singer sewing machine . When i first got the car the fuel pump had a bad diaphram and the carb needed a kit . SO i replaced the fuel pump and put the original in a box so someone that wants to can rebuild it and put the original back on , i didnt bother to kit the carb , i just bought a new one that had been completely rebuilt............ in 1963 , seriously , the carb is perfect and this car runs beautifully. It runs down a country road at 50 miles an hour and you cant even hear it run . At one time someone put some radial tires on it that really help out the handling. Shifts good , clutch feels very tight and works great , It had a couple bad brake springs up front so i replaced them , regreased the wheel bearings and the brakes work excellent , i still need to run the adjusters out a bit on the fronts to take up the half inch of slack in the pedal. Trunk area is great , still has the original cardboard filler panels on the sides and the rear that are in great shape along with the original spare , cover and hold down . At one time the entire underside of the car and inside the trunk was painted with barnroof aluminum paint , it did its job and everything is solid . The car is just a real pleasure to drive , open the cowl vent and roll the windows down and just drive. Its a feeling that is un explainable , The car has a clean and clear illinois title . I called the DMV because the folks were going to sell the car in 04 and dated the title but the buyer never showed up so it has the date of being sold in 04 , i called the Illinois DMV and they said that it is not a problem at all and will be fine . Said it happens all the time. So no goofy paperwork . Overall this is a very solid car that with the exception of the paint and tires i would call a survivor . Honestly , if you are in the area , come take a look at it and we will take a little spin , a ride alone will sell the car itself. I know this is a long drawn out description but as you can pretty much tell by my descriptions and feedback that i leave nothing hidden , I tell about it all good bad and ugly . You will not be disappointed with the car. If you are in the market for a postwar chevy then you really need to consider this car , the original options it has make it stand out in its own right and your really going to be hard pressed to find another like it . Its a great family project that you can drive and tinker with , Enjoy it now and work on it at the same time , It is at a cross roads right now and there are so many different options to do with it , take it back original which is the easiest route , or a custom low rider , or traditional hotrod . The possibilities are endless. Well ill stop rambling , Car is located here in shelbyville IL 62565 , Car will need to be picked up here or i can load it for the shipping company of your choice. Forms of payment accepted are cash upon pickup or if you want it shipped , a cashiers check ahead of time so it can clear my bank. Car must be paid for within 10 days of auction end , I can store the car inside for as long as needed until you can arrange shipping , heck ive held trucks for over a year and a half before , its not eating anything and as long as im paid , it can sit here till you can come and get it. Check out my feedback , pretty easy to see your bid is safe with me. Email me for more pictures or pictures of specific areas.
