Vehicle Detail

1948 Buick Super Sedanete- A very, very nice automobile, extremely clean and maintained. We bought this from the second owner, a Buick mechanic in California. Car has a small service book he kept . Shows new rings at 73,380 miles. Three speed on the tree. Interior looks like factory new. Car apparently was bought new at the Paul A. Roberts Garage in Ontario, Oregon in 1948. Records show it was painted in 1991, and lots of work done on it in the 90s, brakes, water pump, battery, general maintenance. Car runs so quiet you almost can't hear it, I'm very serious about that, big inline 8 cylinder engine, believe the Super high compression 248. Has King bee fogs & backup lights. Radio works great as does everything else. Car needs to be driven more then I can anymore. There are some garage paint dings in it here & there, the worst one I've pictured, you have to look for them. Paint is probably an 8.5 out of 10, average guy on the street assumes it a full classic restoration. Drives like the big old Buicks, sounds like the big old Buicks- Steering wheel ring has a scratched up area where a Lucky Strike knob was sitting ( 2") took it off so I wouldn't break my thumb. Clock doersn't run, forgot. Does not smoke or anything, as I've said , appears to have had new rings in it about 2000 miles ago according to the mechanic's service book but certainly can't stick a guarantee on that. ( I'd bet it does) . Small oil drip from the pan, maybe 1/8 cup a year, just an estimate. Tires are wonderful, battery is the big skinny 6 volt one. Two tone burgundy color, very stunning. Here are a bunch of pictures that probably tell the condition better. Car, title, nothing will leave till honest payment is received and completely cleared. I certainly can help load the car, not a problem. Good luck with it. On Apr-23-10 at 06:35:45 PDT, seller added the following information: Been asked about rust or bondo- I checked under the car, this Buick appears rust free, clean and dry- best I can do don't have a lift. A magnet didn't show any signs of body filler. This is my honest opinion. This is a straight , clean Buick. Mess around with the paint here & there and you got yourself a show winner. On Apr-24-10 at 08:13:17 PDT, seller added the following information: Questions & Answers- Thanks for the interest. Anyone interested in buying the car is welcome to inspect it I live in Colorado. I assumed that was a given. The paint:. By 8.5 out of 10 I mean 10 is perfect, figured everyone knew that, sorry. The ding shown is about 1" x 1/4" wide and is on the front right fender towards the front. There is another, about the same size inside the seam between the hood and the right fender. 4-5 pencil lead size ones here & there- There are some light sanding marks from the 1991 paint job I assume, rear of back trunk. 99% of the car looks about perfect. That's how I look at it. This stuff has to be pointed out to the average Joe. I'm a car guy. Tires: Remington Cushion -Air, L78-15- LOOK ALMOST NEW. - That will save ya about 1000 bucks or so. Mechanical problems: None. I mentioned the oil issue in the listing. Engine appears like it was restored. After winter parking ( Colorado- inside, no heat) a seal or possibly a bearing will talk a bit until the grease or oil hits it and gone. I climbed under the car (again) this morning, with a flashlight, car appears to have NO RUST. Amazing. You are welcome to check that out personally ! Sorry, won't list my reserve. It's VERY fair. Hemmings Motor News, November 2008, listed the 1948 Sedanete price: low 10,500, average 19,00, high 31,500. Good Luck with it- On Apr-26-10 at 10:38:12 PDT, seller added the following information: PLEASE READ *** PLEASE READ*****PLEASE READ **** PLEASE READ I have to be honest here, I think the throw out bearing may be going. Car has been sitting all winter in storage and may have dried up a bit. The noise goes away when the car warms up and is driven, I drove it around yesterday. This morning the same noise re-appeared till it warmed up and drove. The noise ( whining like ) GOES AWAY when the clutch is depressed then comes back intermittently in neutral, till it warms up. Typical throw out bearing thing. This was concurred with a Buick friend -mechanic type. We are guessing a 350-400 dollar repair, the bearing from Kantner is 35 bucks, rest is labor, of course. Here's what I can do. After the auction I can have it fixed, will need some time though. If you are a mechanic type , and want to do this yourself, I'll pay you for the repair based on a fair estimate we come up with. Throw out bearing is not a big deal, just a set back. Sorry about this, but I can't sell a car like this without being up front on the problem. Reserve has not been met yet so everybody is safe This is a beautiful car, sorry about this deal here, just a machine being a machine I guess. Please send a email via eBay - ask seller a question- and I'll be happy to go over this. Also personally come see it too. On May-01-10 at 07:30:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Questions & answers: The horsepower is listed at 115 in the Buick books. Please read the listing for payment again, how I stand on that. Had two Buick Club guys over to view the car for another gentleman. The bearing didn't act up (of course ) . It may just need some good driving and will go away after it's good and lubed up. . The tires came with the car, I don't know age but have had very little use. The interior looks factory new, I have to say it has probably been completely restored to look this good. Don't know the number for factory colors, as listed this was repainted in 1991 at a shop. Color is what you see. Car is not a Pebble Beach show queen, but a very nice respectable automobile. There is a local hauler that I've used in the past, can give that out to the next owner. Yes, enclosed trailer. Think that's it- Thanks for the interest-
