Vehicle Detail

Audio Player Copyright 2009 Ver2.04 You are bidding on a 1977 VW Westfalia Campmobile – an older restoration that was purchased several years by a local enthusiast who rarely drove it, and who now wishes to pass it on. I am assisting the owner by offering it for sale at no reserve in the current auction. This peppy Westy sports the rare automatic transmission option in a baywindow model year that introduced the new (in its day) 2.0 liter computer-assisted fuel injection powerplant – consistently ranked among the most popular of drivetrains by late vintage Type 2 enthusiasts. It is a very presentable, very original Westy that performs very well and comes with plenty of original Westfalia Campmobile options that have survived the ages in good condition. Major Advantages: Good exterior condition – repainted several years ago in original Sage Green. Good mechanical condition – original drivetrain performs well. Interior is all-original, in good condition. New pop-top canvas Other special items: New hubcaps. New 12 volt battery. New pop-top tent canvas. Original Westfalia Curtains 12 volt accessory adapter – recharge your cell phone! Original baywindow privacy curtain. Mechanically, you’ll be handling the most advanced drivetrain VW ever manufactured for the vintage Baywindow bus. In 1977, VW optimized the 2.0 liter electronically controlled fuel injected powerplant by introducing self-adjusting hydraulic valves, producing 66hp at 4200rpm. It was the combination of this dynamic drivetrain plus the power of disc brakes that has caused VW enthusiasts to consistently rank the 1977-78 models high in popularity. It is the peppiest engine VW ever put in a bus, and this one needs absolutely nothing at all – it is very tight and solid, and waiting to take you wherever you’d like to go. It is mated to its original 3 speed automatic transmission which shifts smoothly and flawlessly. Top speed is 75 MPH. You can cruise comfortably all day at freeway speeds. Brakes are in good order, with new pads. It rides great and goes down the road good and straight. Tire tread is 60% - the Camper rides on P185x75R14 radials. The spare tire is safely secured in the spare tire well inside the sink cabinet. Seat belts for four – two up front, two for rear bench. Electrical system is in good working order. All exterior lighting including headlamps, turn signals, emergency, backup and tag lights function properly. Horn, wipers, dash gauges, indicators and dash lights are all operational. AM/FM/CD player. Heater and ventilation levers work well, and all vent window locks are in good order. Exterior-wise, this Westfalia is still wearing its original paint above the roof drip rail and was repainted its original color of Sage Green several years ago. There are some rust bubbles in the paint forward of the driver’s side rear fender well, and there are some spots where rock chips have been touched up. Overall, though, the Westy is very presentable. Interior-wise, the original loop pile carpeting in the front floor, in the walk-thru passenger cabin areas, as well the original seat stand mats are present. Dash is good condition. No chips or cracks in original Securit vent and side window glass. New front windshield with new rubber. Original front seat upholstery and original door panels. Sliding door, cargo hatch and engine door are in good order. The Westfalia laminated cabinets are beautiful and in good condition. Original Westfalia Campmobile Equipment includes the following items: Rotating dinette table with hinged, locking side leaf. Passenger seat is designed as a swivel chair. Floor covered with loop pile carpeting. Rear bench seat that unfolds to become a full size double bed. Rear Deck Mattress Storage Locker under rear bench seat. Ceiling and walls insulated and paneled. Ceiling Cabinet. 110 – 125 volt electrical receptacle with double outlets. Original Baywindow privacy curtain. Original interior curtains for all windows. Louvered windows with removable screens. Icebox – 33 liters - with ice cube trays. Storage Chest. Water tank – 7 gallons - and 12 volt water pump (see photo). Stainless Steel Sink, with drainage and venting system. Utensil compartment. Front (rear-facing) bench seat with storage area. Clothes closet with vanity mirror, hanging rod and shelves. Linen closet. Child’s hammock. Rear lid mosquito net, Pop-up roof with new tent-canvas - front wall with zippered flaps and zippered screen openings. There is a small one inch tear in the base of the front wall that has been professionally patched and sealed. Double Bed inside pop-up roof. Luggage rack. All camping seat and bed canvas are in good condition with no rips or tears. All screens, zippers, cabinet latches, roof tie-downs, restraining straps and snap fasteners function properly. The sink cabinet, water pump, reservoir and plumbing all have remained fully functional over the ages. The wood-grained cabinet paneling looks good.
