Up for Auction is a 1960 Volkswagen Meyers Manx Dune Buggy This is a great vehicle and is currently plated and is being used in Peterborough Ontario Canada (1 hour east of Toronto). I have owned this vehicle for the past 5 years approx. and it has always ran, and ran great!!! I take my three kids in the back and due to the year you don’t need belts (I go slow of course to the ice cream store up the road). I am 6’8” and can fit in the front quite easily. I am selling due to renovations on the house and know that I will probably regret this. When I originally bought it, it had bias-ply tires on the front and have just (about 100kms ago) placed two new tires on the front that are radials. The rear tires are huge and are still running great. I have not put air in them for 5 years…seriously!! They are perfect and very wide. It is a red color and I think is original. The paint could use some touch ups to look perfect. I had a set of 4 speakers installed in it. I also had a pioneer CD player installed in it and it is very loud. The sound is great. The transmission is a 4 speed with reverse. It has one of the 5 digit odometers so I’m not sure what it’s at for miles, but I’m sure it’s been around once. I have taken it to a VW dealer every year for tune ups. The guy that worked on it says it runs great and he is also a Manx owner and loves mine. 1600 CC dual port. It has a 2 inch ball for towing, although I never towed with it. I’m sure you could place a small box trailer to haul a couple of tents on it for camping if you wished to. I had new distributor wires placed on as well. It runs great and all of the lights work. The gas gauge and wipers do not work (used to though about 3 yrs ago.) but may be a minor adjustment or fuse (im sure its just a fuse). I haven’t really worried about the wipers though because it has never been in the rain since I have owned it. The roof comes off and has a small tear that can be fixed for about 50-100 bucks. All of the vinyl has windows and zippers in them, and the front and bottoms have buttons. I believe this is one of the Meyers Manx editions from Bruce Meyers Manufacturing Co. which adds a bit of interesting vintage to it. It also has a double roll bar for added safety. You could easily put seatbelts in if you wished to. The gas tank does not leak, and also has a locking cap. The high-low beam is on the floor. I can sell saftied, but prefer not to as I have no time on my hands right now (3 kids). The insurance is $110 per year for liability through State Farm Insurance in Peterborough. Selling locally so could end prior to the actual end date posted by Ebay. I reserve the right to end early if someone local buys it. I know it will sell and it is a great machine…I love it!!! So you could potentially bring a plate and place it on the vehicle and drive it home. No warranty on vehicle, even though I know it is great!!! On 19-Apr-10 at 00:45:24 EDT, seller added the following information: I have had multiple e-mails about the "bump on the front"...In answer to everyones questions...yes it has the bump. I will upload some photos of it. The older guy in his 70's that I bought from stated that it was the "meyers manx" The VIN stamp matches the title as well. I also just took the roof in today to a local professional vinyl/roof guy and the roof now has all new binding and the tear that I spoke about is now fixed. It also has a new back window in it because the last one had a small tear. He sewed all this up today...looks great Sorry the photo with the roof off is a bit dirty. I Added a photo of the bump that everyone wanted to see...also a picture with the roof off. I also just took the roof in today to a local professional vinyl/roof guy and the roof now has all new binding/piping on all the edges and the tear that I spoke about is now fixed. On 21-Apr-10 at 22:14:13 EDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention that there is also a box of items that go with it...I was given these by the last guy that owned it...he had collected them over the years and just handed them off to me (spare parts and stuff). I also bought (but never put on) a chrome oil filter holder. Its the round one that goes above the engine. Bought it from Marks bug barn in Niagara area.
