Vehicle Detail

Audio Player Copyright 2009 Ver2.04 You are bidding on a cute, colorful 1965 E-Z Camper. It is a dry, rust-free original California transporter – a fine example of a split window, split screen Americanized Microbus camper, carefully cared for and partially refurbished by its previous owner – a prominent enthusiast whose name is widely known to many households in the New York City area. E-Z campers, particularly those in excellent condition like this one, are quite scarce. This E-Z camper is even rarer and more desirable because it is a Double-Door version – with loading doors right and left – a rare model 215, seldom seen in a vintage VW camper conversion. It is a good looking, vintage hardtop camper – a weekender wearing incredible exterior paintwork and finish performed according to the highest standards of professional restoration by highly respected craftsmen. It rides and drives extremely well, with its low mile powerplant and zero mile Freeway Flyer transmission. Its exterior re-paint is stunning – expertly handled by the Paterek Brothers who are internationally known for their expertise in the restoration and preservation of Porsches. This great vintage Double Door EZ Camper is reliable, simple, clean and attractive, and will add to your fun for years to come. And, at my own expense, I will deliver this beautiful vintage EZ Camper to the winning bidder anywhere in the Continental United States via licensed, bonded and insured auto carrier. Major Advantages: Superior exterior condition and appearance – from the hands of some of the world’s best restorers. Excellent mechanical condition – low mile drivetrain, zero mile freeway flyer gearbox, dual Kadron carbs for extra power. Excellent interior appearance – original paint in cab, original EZ camper cabinetry, refurbished seat upholstery. Rare Double Door model – seldom seen in camping configuration. The extraordinary benefit of free delivery to you. Other special items: Original paint dash and cab. Original front seat lap belts. Original polished aluminum louvered windows. Original ceiling dome lights that work! Original 14 inch rims – 5 total, including spare. Original ignition key. Original-style cab door panels. Original-style cab kick panels. Original Sapphire 1 AM radio (disconnected). New Sony AM/FM CD player with Kole Audio speakers. 1600cc dual port engine – low miles, with just 6900 miles since build. New Freeway Flyer gearbox freshly rebuilt with zero miles. Original slash front bumpers Original rear pointed bumpers. Original SWF rear turn signal lenses. New Hella front turn signal lenses. Historically, E-Z Campers, manufactured by E-Z Camper of America, were among the most popular and prevalent of all American-made and designed early VW Microbus camper conversions. Headquartered in Little Rock, California, the company was a family business that began in the early 1960’s as an innovative, made-to-order camper converter of VW panel vans whose popularity grew with its patented seat-into-bed action and beautiful ceiling paneling. VW required its dealers to buy a minimum number of panel vans. VW dealers contracted with E-Z Camper to convert panel vans to campers, with the wood paneling, windows and camper equipment installed in the dealer shop. E-Z Campers are most commonly identified by five camper windows – three on the driver’s side, two on the passenger side – either pop-out or louvered (choice of buyer), the front-facing camper seat armrest, and the metal E-Z Camper badge on right dogleg (see photo). This cute E-Z Camper began its life as a Double Door panel van before its camper conversion. According to its previous owner, it has had just four owners including me, and it has benefited from diligent care, as you can see from my photos. Mechanically, this E-Z Camper is powered by a 1600cc dual port powerplant with the addition of dual Kadron carburetors – and it runs perfectly. The engine was rebuilt 6900 miles ago by the Patereks and I commissioned a gearbox freeway flyer rebuild that has just been completed by Kelly Huffman. It starts without hesitation and sounds exactly as it should. It needs absolutely nothing at all – it is very tight and solid, and waiting to take you wherever you’d like to go. Safe top speed is 65-70 MPH (as opposed to 55 MPH originally). Brakes are in good order, and have been thoroughly inspected and adjusted. It rides great and goes down the road good and straight. Tire tread is 90% - the Camper rides on four 195/75/R15 radials and has a matching spare in the rear hatch wheel well. Recent mechanical updates include: Fresh oil. New points. Valves adjusted. Brakes and clutch fully adjusted. Re-built freeway flyer transmission and reduction boxes – zero miles. New flywheel. New starter. Seat belts for two – there are two original lap belts up front. Electrical system is in excellent working order, and was converted to the stronger, more reliable 12 volt electrical system. All exterior lighting including headlamps, parking lamps, turn signal and tag lights function properly. Horn, wipers, dash gauges, indicators and dash lights are all operational, as are the two dome lights. Original Sapphire 1 radio is present in dash, but inoperative. Sony AM/FM CD player under dash, foam encapsulated, with two Kole Audio speakers mounted on rear of cab bulkhead. Exterior-wise, this great E-Z Camper is exceptionally attractive because of the popular Beige Grey/Sealing Wax Red color combination, and because of the superb paintwork by the Patereks, of Chatham, New Jersey. To get a feel for the level of restorative excellence that was applied to this great vintage camper, google Paterek Brothers. You’ll see what I’m talking about in the rave reviews that abound concerning their work. The bumpers and emblem and wheel rims were repainted the original Silver White. The bus body is very straight with no evidence of any collision or metal repair. The belly pans look wonderful, as you can see in the opening slide show. Front split windshield glass, louvered and side window glass are all void of chips or cracks. You will find all-original Sekurit side, vent and rear window glass. All are very nice, not a trace of fogging or bubbling. Interior-wise, you will find a clean rubber mat in the front cab with a rare rubber protector for the high beam button, as well as new cab door panels and kick panels. Original E-Z ceiling and camper interior paneling. Double Door interior panels are beautiful custom reproductions. The front seat and camper upholstery were all custom made to match the color plan and are in very good condition. Front and camping section doors, rear hatch door and engine door are in good working order. The E-Z laminated cabinets, door shelf table and interior paneling are still operative and functional. Heater and ventilation levers work fine, and all louvered windows, screens and vent window locks are in good order Original E-Z Camper Conversion Items include the following: Beautiful platinum ash “Poly-Clad Plywall” ceiling and interior paneling. Fold-away door shelf with hinged support leg. Rear bench with seat that unfolds to become a full sized double bed. Upholstered armrest handily built into rear seat. Rear Deck Mattress. Storage Locker under rear bench seat. Ceiling shelf. Ceiling lamp that works! Fully functional louvered windows – five total – with screens. Clothes closet. Vanity mirror. Linen cabinet with shelves. All camping seat and bed upholstery is clean and in excellent condition. All screens and cabinet latches function properly.
