Vehicle Detail

I've been told I must reduce my fleet so perhaps my 1983 Honda CX650 Turbo has to go. I hope to find it a good home - I really do love this bike. If you're looking for this bike you probably know all about it but I'll provide a few details here. For a few glorious years in the early 80s the Japanese manufactures came out with their first (and still only) production turbo motorcycles. Honda made a turbo bike for just two years. The first year was a smaller displacement CX500 Turbo. In 1983 Honda made only about 1000 of the larger displacement CX650 Turbo bikes and then production ceased. The 1983 Honda CX650 Turbo is perhaps one of the rarest bikes they have ever produced. Not only is this Honda's only turbocharged bike but also the world's first production motorcycle to have electronic fuel injection. This bike was really ahead of its time. About this specific bike: I purchased this a year ago from a man I believe to be the original owner. He had it stored in his garage for many year and it had only 12000 miles on it. For many years he had been hoping to overcome health issues and ride it but finally decided he would never ride it again even though he loved it so much. I purchased the bike and changed ALL the fluids (engine, rear end, brake fluid, gas, coolant, fork oil) and put on new tires, brake pads and a battery. She fired fight up and has been running great since! I honestly have not bought an older bike that has been stored this long and still runs so well. I think the fact that it's fuel injected helps - it's a very simple fuel injection system by modern standards but reliable and effective. Unfortunately the previous owner had not registered the bike non-op so I had to pay a load of back fees to the CA DMV. The California title is free and clear and now the registration is paid in full and current - no surprises with this bike. The bike runs great. I have a modern 200hp superbike in my stable and when the turbo hits on this Honda I still go "WOW!" and chuckle. I have to admit hearing the whine and whoosh of a turbocharger on a motorcycle is a pretty cool experience. Amazing for 1983. It's a smooth solid feeling bike. I know of no mechanical issues at all. It runs great. Starts great, handles well, stops well, turns well, shifts smoothly, no clunks or groans and goes like stink when asked. Cosmetically the bike is in good original condition and includes the original vintage blue CA license plate. A few paint flaws here and there (I posted a close up picture of the front of the bike where you can see a couple small paint bubbles on the front headlight fairing). The only very minor damage seems to be the tips of the rear fender cover. Apparently the previous owner's little dog decided that part of the bike was fun to chew on. Please see the pic I posted of the rear fender. It's a minor thing but I'm all about full disclosure. Overall this bike is by no means perfect cosmetically - it is not concourse ready and is not restored. But as you can tell from the pictures it's solid, original and good looking. I get a LOT of compliments on this bike and questions. More than any bike I've owner. Especially people who already know about motorcycles go crazy for this bike. The bike includes 1 original key (sorry don't know what happened to the 2nd key), the original owners manual and a good copy of the factory service manual. The service manual is super well written and helpful. Now that I've written all this up I hate to sell it even more. But I have to come to terms that I can't store an unlimited amount of motorcycles at my house and also be a responsible head of household! There are some good write ups on this bike in bike magazines lately and a few good videos on youtube. Have yourself a google to find out more. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. I have a decent reserve on this because I'm not in a hurry to sell and this is such a unique bike it may take a while to find a buyer who appreciates it. Happy Bidding! - John San Diego, CA On Jan-16-19 at 09:11:43 PST, seller added the following information: *** I've informed by an interested bidder that it's possible the seat is not the original seat *** I did not change the seat but it's possible the previous owner did. The seat looks and feels fine to me but I can't say for sure if it's original or not.
