Up for sale is a 1971 BMW R60/5 manufactured 1/71. I picked this up from the widow of the original owner, She told stories of how proud he was when he got his new BMW motorcycle. It is as it was to this day the way he purchased it from the dealer. His son remembers the day well as he tipped it over the first day he brought it home, he can laugh about it now. It has been sitting since 2005 when the elderly man just couldn't ride anymore. I can tell you this guy took good care of his things, the carbs were drained and the bike was stored well. It did get some surface rust on parts but a new battery and fresh gas and this thing was running. I put new spark plugs, fresh oil and filter, fixed a couple bad wire connections and all the lights are working. The needle on the tachometer is warped, just like many of these old BMW's do, so it is rubbing on the lens of the gauge and sticks in spot at times. I don't see any big oil leaks, I'm sure some of the old seals may weep a little. Tires look good and are the ones that were on it when I picked it up. The bike has its air pump, tool kit, and owners manual still with it. The charging light does come on at idle which is very common for these old charging systems but does deliver 14 volts when rpm's are increased. It has removable saddlebags but the trunk is bolted on. I'm not sure what else to say about this machine, I do personally like these old airheads but I have several already and I just do not have the space to keep them all. I believe everything is there to put it back to a naked bike except the headlight and ring, the front turn signal stalks are there just have been bent up a little to clear the fairing.
