Vehicle Detail

1967 Sears SR250 with a lot of history. Mileage stated is original. The SR250 is a re-badged Puch 250 SGS (sometimes referred to as a "twingle"), which is well-regarded in Central Europe to this day. They were made in Austria for over 20 years and changed very little over their lifespan. These are simple, no-frills machines designed for reliability and economy. They're unusual today and I get a lot of comments and looks while riding around. I attend Motoblot every year and people always want to talk about the bike, hear it run, etc. Here's a short video of this bike being started and ridden by a previous owner. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZkK2pLDQC4 This is the exact bike for sale here, though the video is 6-years old. The person in the video sold it to the person from whom I purchased it. There are many photos. One is a pic of me riding the bike into Motoblot last year. I'm 6 feet and 240lbs, so you get an idea of the size of the bike compared to the size of a fairly-large person. I purchased this bike in 2013 and I believe I'm the fourth owner. It was originally owned by someone who worked in the department at Sears responsible for importing these, so it has a couple of rare Sears-dealer options. One is a chromed air-cleaner cover which was usually only available on the Scrambler. The other is a side kickstand (bike came from Austria with only a center-stand). The engine is a split-single, which is two pistons sharing a common crank and combustion chamber. The forward piston uses an offset spindle, so that they don't ignite at the same time. This was a design originally conceived as a method of improving efficiency in single-cylinder 2-cycle engines. There are two tanks, one for fuel and another for oil. The bike is oil injected, so you don't ever have to premix. I've included photos of every cosmetic issue I can think of on the bike. It is 51 years old and has a relative patina to it. I think this looks really cool, personally. The gas tank was stripped, cleaned, internally sealed and repainted by the previous owner, so no gas tank rust issues. Work I've done:- All new cables in 2015.- New tires in 2016.- New clutch in 2016.- New points and condenser 2016. - New battery last May. The bike starts up after 2-3 tries and runs great. The clutch could use minor adjustment but works ok. The bike is not a racer, it cruises comfortably at 40-55mph and is pretty good on gas. It will go faster and I've had it up to 65 on highways, but I don't enjoy going that fast on any small bike. I'm including a box of spare parts, including a complete original gasket set, new seals, and three gallons of Lucas semi-synthetic 2-cycle oil. I also have a copy of an original owners/shop manual, including all tech updates and some improved service instructions supplied by Motorwest in Milwaukee. Parts for this bike are available from Motorwest. Motorwest are the USA experts on these bikes and can order parts from Austria in the rare event they don't have it in stock. There's a discussion forum online for this bike where people discuss maintenance questions, share stories of complete teardown rebuilds, etc. Buyer is responsible for picking this motorcycle up in Chicago or arranging shipping (it's not very heavy and can be transported in the back of a pickup truck pretty easily). I recommend trucking it unless you live in Chicago. Motorcycle is sold AS-IS, WHERE IS, NO warranty stated or implied.
