Vehicle Detail

June 12, 2018 note: Thank you to all eBay members who shared this ad on social media, but I would like to extend a special "thank you" to eBay member George_gay! who contacted me directly through eBay messages. I am not an eBay power seller, and as such I still have much to learn. George pointed out that I could sell the car for a greater sum if I presented it to appear better than it really is in the photos. I appreciate the feedback, but I feel that it would not be fair to the buyer. This is a 20 year old car, and just like "photoshopping" a 50 year old may erase wrinkles on a photo for a dating site, I find this would not result in a good match. I want the buyer to enjoy this car as much as I did. I think a full and honest description and disclosure is the best way to achieve that. In fact, I took another hard look at the car and would like to point out an additional cosmetic shortcoming (see new photo) in terms of the brake pedal missing the rubber cover. George indicated that the odometer shows 181 202, which is "nearly 200 000 miles", in fact this is a Canadian car and the odometer is in Kilometers, which is actually 112 600 miles; this is the reason for the discrepancy in the photo and the listing. George also pointed out that the Saturn SC2 may have particular appeal to certain demographics, and that I could market it directly to them. I am not certain how to do that through the eBay platform, but I invite anyone who has seen this ad to share it with anyone whom they think would be interested in this car. As a final note to George, and anyone else, I would obviously be happy for a smooth sale to anyone regardless of sexual orientation, or skin colour, gender, ethnic background, religious belief etc.Original item description: I am selling my own car. I am the original owner of this Saturn SC2. No one has ever smoked in this car, nor have there been any pets in it. I am not a dealer. This is your chance to own a piece of history. Saturn was GM's attempt to beat the Japanese at their own game, the fuel-efficient compact car. Up until 1982 the Big Three were making large, heavy, thick metal bodied cars that rusted quickly while being driven by a gas guzzling V-6 or V-8 engine. GM realized that they could not change from within and set up an independent company to do things better, "A different kind of Car Company". Everything was to be better. The retail experience was radically changed to replace the vilified commissioned salesmen that most showrooms had with salaried salespeople so as to introduce a friendly, no-pressure, haggle-free sales process. GM built a new plant in Tennessee, housed with its best employees, engineers, and administrators. The whole team was on-board to build a car targeted at the American consumers of Japanese cars. This was an exciting time. I had only owned used cars up until this point, but in 1997 I started my first real job, and I wanted the best car that I could afford. I researched all the cars on the market at the time, and the Saturn and Honda Integra were my 2 finalists. I chose the Saturn SC2 because of all the innovations that were part of the car. The Saturn features a "space-frame" around the cabin, like Formula 1 cars do, so in case of a collision the occupants of the vehicle are kept safe. The undercarriage and exhaust system are made of stainless steel rather than cheaper metal so that they won't rust. The exterior body panels are all made of polymer, like the Chevrolet Corvette, and do not rust or dent. The engine is made of aluminum by a unique process called "lost foam", whereby the molten aluminum is poured into a foam mould which vaporizes on contact with the hot aluminum. The aluminum that was in contact with the foam cools super quickly and then acts as a mould for the rest of the molten aluminum. This way each engine is perfect, as each engine has its own brand new mould. There are no imperfections that build up from reusing a cast, no shavings, or blemishes. In addition, the straight 4 aluminum engine does not rust. Rust is a big deal in Montreal. It killed my previous cars. I have now owned this car for 20 years, and I still love it. This is the car that I drove my girlfriend around in before I drove over to her house in, in order to propose. This is the car that I used to get to work for my first job after finishing university. I drove my kids around in car chairs in this car. Most people would have gone through almost 7 cars since I bought this car, but until now I have not found a car that is better than my Saturn. I am now awaiting delivery of my Tesla Model 3. My beloved Saturn has served me well, and I would still want to hold on to it as I am certain it will be increasingly respected as people realize the innovative nature of this car. In fact, the primary reason that GM killed it was because it was eating into its own sales just as much as it was eating into the Japanese's. Later models of the car were made like the rest of Corporate GM, and then no one wanted the car and the company was closed. This car will be a collector's item soon. In 5 years it will hit 25 years and will be eligible for collector's plates. It may not be a Studebaker or Delorean, but it shares the fact that it was an innovative car that captured the imagination of its time.On 19-Jun-18 at 00:25:13 EDT, seller added the following information: June 18, 2018 note: In response to another email, there are scuffs on the car. It may not be fully clear on the photos, but there are scuff marks on all 4 sides of the car. It is 20 years old, and I have not repainted it. There are no functional problems with the car to my knowledge. There are no repairs pending on the car, which to the best of my knowledge is mechanically sound. I have driven it today (adding a few kilometers to the odometer), and it still runs very well. There are no leins on the car. The title is clear. Thank you for your interest.
