Up for sale is my 1956 R50. Vin # 557700. It was manufactured September 7th, 1956 and delivered on May 24th,1957 to the BMW importer Butler & Smith in New York City per the BMW group archives. It was titled in 1957. I am the 2nd owner and have owned it for 24 years. It has been a great bike to own and enjoy! It is in very good condition for a 62 year old motorcycle. It rides and shifts very smoothly as it should. Everything works as it should. It always starts on the 1st or 2nd kick. The paint is original and very nice for it's age but there are scratches, mostly on the front of the rear fender, below the battery. It is not museum quality, it is a rider. And the ride is amazing! It had been sitting in the original owners garage for 10 years without running when I bought it. It had US handle bars that I replaced with European bars and cables. I still have the US bars and they will go with the bike. I found original Enduro bags that I put on with a dual wide seat that is much more comfortable. I added headlight mirrors and bar end turn signals. A flanders side stand, pipes and mufflers. The left side muffler has a dent on top near the exhaust pipe. I will include a picture of it. I replaced the original point system for a upgraded Pentacomm system. I also upgraded the original float tops on the carbs to Lever top for better sealing plus a new petcock. When I got the bike running I found that the speedometer worked but the odometer didn't. I was told that happens when a bike sets for many years. I rode it a few hundred miles before I sent the speedometer to Palo Alto to be refurbished. They did a very nice job. So the mileage isn't correct but it's very close. I recently put on 2 new tires and installed a new Gel battery. I have the original owners service manual and tire pump. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thank you.
