Vehicle Detail
96 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE VIN# LSGT509 Presented for sale is this pristine vintage Rolls Royce. It presents in a stunning two tone silver /charcoal grey. I purchased this car in December of 2014. The car was mechanically solid and had no rust. It immediately underwent an extensive restoration that was completed in January 2016. This particular SCIII chassis card and build sheet show this car was shipped from London to New York via the Scythia on September 12, 1964. It retains its original engine, number ST.254. G. The car’s original owner was a Chevrolet dealer in Columbus, Ohio. When I purchased the car, the odometer read 50107 miles which is believed to be accurate. The odometer now reads 54057 miles. The car is completely stock with the exception of the three sympathetic upgrades as noted in bold print below. The interior of this car is perfect. The restoration included all new leather interior, new headliner, and all wood trim was removed and refinished. All the gauges work as they should, including the clock. All interior lights work as do the power windows. The exterior is also in mint condition. The car was stripped to bare metal and then painted in Silver (Nason paint #384644) and medium Charcoal (Nason paint #338648). The weather stripping is all new. The brightwork and glass are excellent. The tires are Kumho Solus 235-75-R15 and have tread depth of 9/32-10/32nds of an inch. The trunk has a good spare tire, correct jack, hand pump, and tire iron. Multiple mechanical issues were addressed, either at the time of the initial restoration or subsequently over the last three years of ownership. The list includes:Heat & A/C; New aftermarket air conditioning system. The car had original stock A/C system, but just not sufficient for Atlanta summers. Replaced heater tap and Actuator motor, replaced heater hoses. Brake system; completely rebuilt including new front and rear brake shoes, new front and rear brake cylinders, new front and rear brake hoses, adjusted brake servo, rebuilt both master cylinders. Cooling system; new upper and lower radiator hoses, re-cored radiator, replaced water pump impellor with upgraded option for optimal flow, new thermostat, new steam valve, two new 12" electric fans, new radiator filler cap, flushed system and pressure tested. Exhaust system; straightened old pipes and replaced all exhaust hangers. Ignition system; new starter, new upgraded electronic ignition, generator replaced with upgraded alternator, new spark plugs, new ignition plug wires, new coil wire, filter element. Engine; carburetors adjusted, new brass float, reset ignition timing, transmission band adjustment, adjusted throttle pressure linkage, replaced all fan belts, engine bay re-freshening, oil changed several times since ownership, last oil change was December 2017. Entertainment; installed new radio and speakers. Radio placed in glove box with hand held remote, replaced power antennae. Miscellaneous; installed new leather gators, installed new horns. The performance, ride and handling in this car are what you would expect from a vintage luxury vehicle. The ride is incredibly quiet going down the freeway not unlike current luxury cars. The car starts right up, the automatic transmission shifts smoothly and the engine purrs as it drives effortlessly down the road. The only things that keep this car from being a #1 concours car is the lack of a tool kit and the fact that I drive this car, so the engine bay and undercarriage are not spotless. The car is sold AS-Is. No warranties are made, direct or implied. Pre-purchase inspections are encouraged. Initial non-refundable $1000.00 deposit is required within 24 hours of the purchase via cash or PayPal. The remainder is due by cash or wire transfer within 7 days of purchase. I will assist with arranging transportation as needed, but all costs and responsibility for transport are on the buyer. The car is being advertised locally so I hold the right to end this auction early and sell it locally. Background history on the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud:The RR Silver Cloud(SC) was introduced in 1955. It was the first true post-war design, and the last RR to have old-world, body-on-frame construction. The SC I model had a 4.9 liter straight six- cylinder engine with GM’s four-speed Hydra-Matic transmission. The SC II was introduced in 1959 and was the first RR to utilize Rolls-Royce’s aluminum, 6.2 liter, 230-hp V-8 engine. The Motor published an extensive road test of the new SC II, with the subhead, “Effortless speed and extreme quietness with a new V-8 engine”. In September 1960, Road & Track reported, “it is a pleasure to report that there is still a company in business dedicated to the task of producing the best car in the world, regardless of cost.” The SCIII was the last of the Silver Cloud series, introduced in 1962. There were subtle cosmetic design changes (four headlights, lower hood and radiator shell, separate front seats, and more leg room front and back). The V-8 now produced 246hp. In total, Rolls Royce produced 2,044 standard steel body SC III’s as production ended in 1965.
