1947 DeSoto SuburbanThis is a one-familiy owned vehicle since new!! The owner, now 83, was with his father when he bought the vehicle off of the showroom floor . He was 13 years old at the time.The following is his statement as to the history of the car. “The Suburban has never been in an accident and I have spent thousands of dollars over the years restoring it. It has been driven 96,758 original miles since new. The engine was overhauled at 85,000 miles and purrs like a kitten. The paint was redone in the factory original colors. We contacted Detroit for the paint information to get the exact match. All of the chrome (grill, bumpers, roof rack parts, etc. have been rechromed. The door handles were not removed for re- chroming. It is interesting to note that all of the interior panels are finished in wood- including the inside of the trunk lid. The 4-speed Fluid drive works perfectly. In addition, 4 new six ply tires were installed at the same time. (2016)”“In the last few months (2016) the entire fuel system was cleaned including removing the fuel tank and carburetor to have them cleaned professionally. All brake parts are new including turned drums, new brake shoes and cylinders and the master cylinder rebuilt. A new condenser and points were installed. The starter and solenoid were rebuilt and a new battery was installed. Steering arm bushings were also rebuilt. All of the work was done in Idaho.”The above is a quote from the last and only owner of the car until late 2017.In 2017, the entire interior including the headliner were refinished, including the beautiful wood floor in the luggage area. In addition, the doors fit like new with no sag at all. The only rust detected is two spots where the roof gutter ends at the trunk area. They do not show up well in pictures. This is an amazing Suburban and luckily it was cared for by the original family for 70 years. Holds up to nine passengers-- have fun with your friends!!!
