Vehicle Detail
You are looking at one of the oldest BMW R68 motorcycles known to exist ( I can only find documentation of maybe 5 older bikes)I have for auction a 1952 BMW R68. I hold a clear Ohio title in my name for this bike and the bike is ready for export.I will be very sad to see this go, but time marches on and it’s time for this bike to go to a new caretaker.VIN 650257 matching numbers (frame and engine) original engine and transmission. Built March 24th, 1952Mileage showing on the original speedometer is 78xxx Kilometers or 48xxx miles believed to be correctThis is one of the oldest R68 models that have come up for sale in recent years (257th bike built) of a total 1453 bikes manufactured in 3 years.Since this is an early bike it has the daintiest/rarest features compared to some of the later bikes. For example it has steel fork legs with no gators, single sided front brakes, fishtail mufflers, simple igniton key switch etc. These features in my opinion make this bike have cleaner lines than the later more bulbous R68’sI have verification from BMW (shown in pics) that this is a “real” R68. BMW would not verify the bike Without seeing a picture of the “Stirnradtoleranz” which are the numbers stamped into the top of the case showing the gear lash I believe, as well as VINS and title. I also have a birth certificate from BMW.This bike has been in my family since the 70’s . I acquired it from my dad in 1989 as the Ohio title shows.Around 1989 the bike received a cosmetic restoration. Recently I have bought some new parts for the bike from BMW vintage as these parts were not available at the time of restoration. It has new pipes and mufflers, new pillion seat, new speedometer, new battery box, handlebar risers, etc ……………………When it was restored the wheels were replated with chrome and spokes were changed to stainless. Paintwork was performed and hand pinstriped. It has never had engine work or trans work as long as it has been in my family.I rode the bike quite often after It was restored, but it has been sitting in storage for many years now. When it was parked it was running fine. Motor kicks over fine.INCLUDED IN THE PICTURES ARE:: (NEW PARTS FROM BMW CLASSIC)2-BATTERY STRAPS 1 OLD, 1 NEW ANOTHER FRONT COVER. ONE ONE BIKE WAS POLISHED A BITMISC. This bike is also advertised outside of ebay and if sold prior to auction ending, listing may be cancelled without notice.I would suggest if you are serious about bidding on this bike do a test bid early to make sure you have not been excluded from the auction for any ebay reason. I just don't want anyone to miss out at the end of the auction ( I have had this happen to me in the past). 440-328-9037 (9AM TO 9PM EST) On Mar-30-18 at 18:33:26 PDT, seller added the following information: I am sure I will forget several things as I go.
