Vehicle Detail

You're viewing my 1972 Porsche 914 1.7 coupe. The car is unmolested and mostly original. The car shows 76,942 miles and mileage could be original as the car was driven very little from 1995-present. I have no documentation however to confirm. It was a VA/NC car before I brought it to SC. Earlier in its life it was painted Signal Orange (exterior only...inside of front and rear trunks as well as door jambs were left alone and remained silver). As you can see the exterior is back to the original bright silver color. The paint job is over 10 years old and still looks pretty good. The car has been garaged/stored out of the elements which has helped preserve its overall condition. I would call it a 5-10 footer. Overall they did a decent job. One thing that bothers me (and most people wouldn't even know the difference) is they painted over the rubber inserts between the front fender tops and the cowl. Not a huge deal and easy to replace, but if you plan on restoring/repainting the car you'll be replacing them anyway. The interior is in pretty nice shape overall. Seats are very nice with only minor wear and tear. Center cushion/arm rest is grey vinyl but easily dyed black or removed altogether. Door panels are in decent shape. Dash top has several typical cracks and shrinkage. Radio delete. The gauge lenses are clear and markings are bright. Carpet is decent. Targa top is in good shape. All glass is good. The exterior of the car appears straight, clean, and rust free for the most part. The rear deck lid has some minor bubbling close to the rear where it starts to curve downwards (can be seen in one of the pics). Door jambs and dog legs look good. Some areas of the floors will need some attention to be perfect, but the car can be used just fine as they are. The battery hell hole area does have some typical rust. Not horrific, but present. Front pan however is nice and solid. Inside the front trunk where the spare tire sits was affected by moisture that got in, but its mostly surface discoloration. Car is sporting original Porsche 914 Fuchs. They should polish up really nice. There is some light oxidation on the polished paddle portions and lips of the rims, as well as on the brightwork trim around the windshield. Chrome bumpers are in good shape. Rubber bumper tops show a little wear, but are acceptable and don't diminish the overall great look of the car. The front lower valance is off the car (I was in the process of taking a small ding out and painting) but it's included in the sale. Tires have been on the car a very long time and even though they have good tread and hold air, they should be replaced due to age. Doors have good gaps and open/close well, as do the front and rear deck lids. I don't believe the car was ever in an accident. Headlights open and close properly. Turn signals work. The original 1.7 liter engine runs decent but there is a little blow by at times (valve seal from sitting?). It's still pretty peppy though, and fires right up. Has a single Weber carb setup. New fuel pump. Newer battery. Engine lid release cable pulled out from the lever by the driver's seat, so now you access the cable inside rear trunk and simply pull to pop the lid. Original 5 speed tranny shifts well. The car does drive and stop fairly well, but it's been used very little over the last 15 years so it should really be gone over more thoroughly before any real on-road use. Overall this is a nice early chrome bumper 914 that can be enjoyed once thoroughly gone over, or easily taken to the next level. I bought the car last year to personally restore, but I recently purchased another early 911 and this is one of several Porsche's out of my collection that I've decided to sell. My wife doesn't understand why I "need" so many. But, happy wife = happy life. As I'm sure you know, air cooled Porsche prices have skyrocketed over the last few years. With the prices of early 911's and now even 912's out of reach for most enthusiasts, the "Poor Man's Porsche" aka 914 is finally being respected for what it is. A nimble, light, fun little car with mid-engine handling characteristics and great styling cues, that is still somewhat affordable for the average Joe. But, get on the train before you're left behind as they will continue to climb and be great investments as well! As you can see, I like my toys (and this isn't even all of them) but sadly I'm selling several of my Porsche's to fund the restoration of my 1970 911E (which ironically WAS originally Signal Orange from the factory, but painted "Resale Red" back in 2003 when they weren't worth much!). I'll be bringing her back to her former glory very soon. I'm a private collector who enjoys restoring and driving classic sports cars. When a new opportunity arises, I'll often sell some of my collection and work on a new project. I have sold several of my Porsche's and other cars on eBay over the years, all with very happy new owners. I try to be very transparent and forthcoming when describing my cars, and value my 100% feedback and reputation. I'm listing this with No Reserve, so bid to own! The last bid wins! Please only bid if you're serious and can follow thru with the purchase per my terms: I require a $500 PayPal deposit immediately following the auction, and the balance is to be bank wired within 3 business days following the auction. No exceptions. I've had way too many bad experiences with people just playing games. No Zero feedback bidders unless we speak PRIOR to your bidding or your bid will be cancelled and you will be blocked. This isn't a game! I am open to realistic offers to end the listing early, and will gladly sell to overseas buyers. Car nor title leave my possession until funds are free and clear in my account. Clean and clear title is in my name and in my possession. Car is located at my home in Conway, SC outside of Myrtle Beach. Thanks for looking am for happy bidding!
