LONG STORY VERSIONI'm the founder of a Technology Company that has been working on cars and motorcycles for over 30 years. During the past few years, my hobby has been taking modern classic European cars (Mercedes, Porsche, and Land Rover) and restoring them to a very high specification. I've never had any of these project vehicles for more than a year as I enjoyed the process of the restoration more than driving them. On each sale, I'd lose many thousands of dollars and I began to realize that my pastime really wasn't sustainable. I came up with a compromise to my dilemma in the form of salvage motorcycles. They would have a lower price entry point, readily sourced parts, and could be restored to a high level of cosmetic and mechanical functionality while coming in at or near their actual value when I went to sell them. That is how this listing came to be. I carefully locate lightly damaged motorcycles from Ducati, BMW, or Triumph and purchase them from insurance auctions and restore them to perfect working condition. When I buy the motorcycles, they come with Salvage titles which means the vehicle can't be road legal until it is fully repaired to exact manufacturer specifications and then it goes through an Enhanced Safety Inspection by a licensed Pennsylvania inspection station. This enhanced safety inspection ensures that the motorcycle operates perfectly and confirms that it has been restored to the manufacturer's original design. Only then can a motorcycle be titled again with a Rebuilt branded title that allows full registration and road legal privileges. Once repaired, inspected, and titled properly, the vehicle is perfectly legal to be driven on public roads, sold, transferred, titled, anywhere in the USA. The work done to bring these back into spec is time-consuming, but I am meticulous in my approach and work to ensure everything is done, "as it should be". I wouldn't sell something that I would not be proud of myself. ABOUT THIS BMW 2008 R1200RTThis 2008 BMW had light front end damage. The headlight housing was broken beyond repair, the oil cooler had been damaged and was leaking, the right side front shock was broken and leaking, and the rear tail light assembly was broken on one side. It also had a broken clutch cable tube. I sourced all parts from eBay. The clutch tube and tail light assembly were new OEM units and the headlight, oil cooler, and front shock were sourced from the same model BMW from used stock with exactly matching part numbers. A cracked left hand mirror was also replaces with new glass from an online supplier. Some paint chips in the front fairing (mostly right hand side) were touched up with OEM color match BMW Titan Silver touch up paint. These are the only visible blemishes on the bike. Mechanically, the bike is a 9 out of 10. The replacement right side front fork slider could use a new seal. This does not affect the functionality of the suspension in any way whatsoever since BMW uses a remotely mounted shock for the front suspension. The oil in the sliders is simply for lubrication. Cosmetically, it is excellent and I would rate it a 7.5 out of 10. It would be an easy 9 out of 10 if not for the touched up scratches on the fairings.
