Vehicle Detail
Once in a while amid the zillions of common motorcycles listed on Ebay a truly rare bike shows up. This 1963 Sport Dream is such a bike. Here's your chance to own a real piece of documented Honda history. According to the Honda motorcycle guide, the CA (CSA) Dream Sport was produced from 1960 to 1963. Manufactured in very small numbers, and never a big seller, this early attempt at a street scrambler is exceedingly rare today. I saw one at Mid Ohio a few years back and another restored example was listed on Ebay some time ago. In my 50 years of riding, collecting and working on bikes those are the only two I have seen. This particular bike is currently owned by my good friend Bill, a 40+ year Honda shop manager who used to service it for the original owner back in the day. He is the 3rd owner. It was purchased new at Gifford Honda (established 1960) in South Dartmouth, Ma. As verified by the dealer's son, it was one of two Dream Sports sold by Gifford's. The original owner kept the bike until he passed. In 1984 his wife sold it to the second owner, a classic car dealer a half mile down the road, where it sat in his showroom for some 25 years. Bill purchased it in 2009. It has been displayed as the as the centerpiece of my Long Plain Vintage M/C collection for the last 8 years. I cannot over emphasize how original and complete this bike is. First of all, the engine and frame numbers match. It has all the correct Dream Sport equipment which includes: waist level header pipes, mufflers, shields and baffles, battery two piece side cover, brake lever, foot peg mounts, center and kickstands. All these parts differ from the standard Dream Touring models. The paint on the bike is totally original-no touch ups or replaced painted parts. Although it shows typical wear, with a few bumps and bruises, it still shines nicely. The front fender lower flange is perfect. The red seat cover has no splits or tears. The factory tire pump is in place. (key missing) We believe the luggage rack is a period Honda accessory installed at the dealer. The levers, star adjusters, cables with grease nipples and the front Nitto tire are original. The chrome is in very good shape. In order to put the bike back on the road, the following service work has been performed: Nos Wisco battery Rebuilt carb, petcock, tank mounts and rider footpegs New Coker rear wide whitewall tire and tube New throttle cable and air filter The gas tank has been flushed and cleaned but NOT coated. Correct repro badges have been installed. The bike starts, runs and shifts beautifully. The exhaust has a very distinctive note. All the electrics work. Due to long periods of storage the speedo is inop. The inside cable has been removed to prevent damage to the drive unit. I have posted a video of the bike running on my Facebook page. You can find it @longplainvmc. Please call Bill at Archie's Honda 508 995-9751. Tues-Sat 9-5 EST or 508 717-5278 with any questions you have. The reserve is very reasonable for a bike this rare and will be removed if the bidding gets close. The bike is currently registered and has a clear Mass. title in the owner's name. Shipping is the buyer's responsibility. Worldwide shipping is fine but please do your own homework on shipping costs. A paypal deposit of $100 is due within 48 hours. Balance in full by bank check within 7 days. Bike can be held for a reasonable time once payment is received. It could be years before another one of these becomes available and chances are it won't be in this condition. Thank you for your interest. On Aug-18-17 at 10:21:06 PDT, seller added the following information: International buyers are welcome to bid on this bike including France, England and Japan.
